But now I am trying to be one of the best and don’t have a hockey idol right now. Q: Were you satisfied with your play at the WJC in 2015? (Goldobin scored the last goal by Team Russia against Canada in the gold medal game when Russia almost tied the game 5-4 after trailing by score 5-1) A: I am never satisfied with my game because I know that can play better. This. As long as he keeps the attitude to keep learning and stay coachable I don't see why he can't be a star in this league.

In all fairness Baertschi and Granlund didn't make impacts at the NHL level until 23 so we should at least give him all of next year to develop. I see some great and some questionable decisions. Too early to tell but it looks like he doesn't often make the same mistake twice. I've seen him use the boards to get the puck out effectively too. He's such a good skater that if he really applies himself on the for e-check he could cause neutral zone turn overs that result in odd man rushes. Goldobin is going to make mistakes especial on a team like Van where just about every player makes more than one mistake every game. The fans need to learn not to freak out about them if they happen often on this young team with vets that even make the same mistakes. Goldobin needs to learn once he has turned the puck over he need not watch want has taken place, but instinctively back check to get the puck back. Popular Post Stierlitz
And here is Part 2 of the interview with Goldobin and his agent Igor Larionov - again I skip some questions about SJS players and its farm club, not interesting for Canucks fans. Q: What do you think about the coolest beards in the NHL of Joe Thornton and Brent Burns? A: Spectacular. I would probably need 30 years to grow beard like this! Q: Do they look like 60-year old grandparents with such “vegetation”? A: A little bit (smiling). Q: You got assist against Florida on Nov 6. Did you get autograph from Jaromir Jagr? A: I wanted it so much. When playing against him, I was wondering if that was in the real life or I was sleeping. He is third in points in the entire NHL history! But I thought this would look weird and did not ask. Q: I`ve seen you carrying a water bottle pack from the ice after practice. Do you have some duties in the club as a young player? A: Yes, I carry either pucks or water. This is normal, I don't mind. Q: Do you hope to play for Russia in the world championship? A: Sure I would love, I dream to play for the national team – all Russians watch it. But there are so many good Russian players in the NHL and KHL. Talking about the AHL, I would want to be in playoffs so that the season does not end so fast. Sure we are tired but playoffs is always interesting. And some conversation with the Goldobin`s agent, former legendary hockey player Igor Larionov. Q: What is your opinion about the Goldobin`s time with the farm club, is this too long? A: Not yet. He needs time for adaptation to the men hockey in North America. He needs to play a lot and Goldobin is getting this in the Barracuda club. There is no point to keep him with Sharks playing on third-fourth lines with players who are not on the same page with him. How long this would continue? I talk regularly with the Sharks general manager Doug Wilson. There is practically a short time frame to convert a promising young player into the game breaker, and this is important not to miss that moment, move the player to the main club in time and put him with skilled partners. Yes, the young player is going to make mistakes but the partners would correct this and help him to get better. The same situation was in Vancouver with the young Pavel Bure. When Pat Quinn put him with me, Pavel immediately found his game and started scoring in bunches because the scoring forward needs a partner who understands his game. As agent I search for hockey players like Goldobin because they are creative, play with improvisation and move the game of hockey forward. Q: Goldobin scored his first goal in the NHL with the pass from Joe Thornton and the team captain Joe Pavelski also played on that line. A: And they like to play with him. I talked to both Pavelski and Jumbo. But I have another concern. I knew the head coach Peter DeBoer from New Jersey and now by his work with Andrey Loktionov and realized that Goldie was not his type of player. By the way I asked Wilson how many times he watched Goldobin`s play before drafting Nikolay in the first round. Apparently just one game was enough for the general manager – that was the CHL top prospect game and Goldobin was selected as the best player for his team in that game. Besides it should be noted that before Finland Goldobin played for the weakest team in the OHL and had more points than Connor McDavid 68 to 66. Very few people know about this. Sure McDavid was one year younger but he was already talked about as wunderkind playing beyond his age. Q: Was that your idea to send Goldobin to Finland? A: Yes and I believe this has given him a lot. There was another option with club in Germany but I thought that Finland would be better choice because of their small ice rinks and more straightforward hockey. Nikolay needed to learn that style, to live in different country, to play in different hockey and make smooth transition from junior to men hockey. I had agreement with HIFK club that Goldobin would play in the top two lines and they did it. That year in Finland gave him opportunity to understand and review many things. Hockey life is pretty short actually. I was lucky to play so long but for most players this is 5, 10 years, maximum 15. And Goldie is on the right track.

Derp...
Interesting tid bits. I like the part about missing the moment when a game breaker needs to be i the NHL and learning from his linemates. We haven't had a game breaker in a long time. It will be interesting to see how we can make this happen. I feel like McCann was the closest thing we've had in a while. Not many young guys score 5 goals in their first 9 games, but they need to continue to play with good players even through the bumps.
Beary Sweet
The kid wants to be in the NHL to prove that he can be amongst the best of the best, and that he doesn't have to be Crosby or Ovi but to just be himself. He will be a solid player to be relied upon for our team for many years to come. He just has that goal scorer's instinct that you don't see very often from young kids like himself. It's great to hear also that he wanted to stay in Canada while not knowing a whole lot of English to pursue his NHL dream. Kids like himself have to learn on the fly while playing in juniors. The fact that he has some past chemistry with Boucher will help our team with line combos as he can be put on a line with him and they can instantly click. He will be a great player for the team for many years to come and maybe he can help Hischier adjust to his game if we manage to draft him this summer

Everyone got excited except Willie. That picture confirms what I figured when he scored that goal, that he was calmly chewing on his mouth guard all the way up the ice. Move over Tanev, you aren't the only one that can play with a smoke in your mouth.
