Evidently can't project what trades are made, who is signed, who is bought out... but seeing the way things are and how benning talks about players this is how I see next year. Evidently everyone has boeser stepping right into the NHL, but I have a feeling he may need some time in the AHL. No player was ever hurt in their long term development by taking their time to get to the NHL. I think we give Rodin another shot, but Virtanen or Boeser could fit in there as well, and Boucher seems to have the eye of Benning and could get a bump up the lineup.

Unless we get some serious lottery luck, I don't see any way our pick this year makes the team. Juolevi still has a year of junior eligibility I think... otherwise he'd be in Utica as well. One possibility for another forward added to the mix is dishing Stetcher/Hutton... guess we'll have to wait and see!

As much as it would seem like asset mismanagement, looking at the long term I think it may be a good idea to expose Sutter in the expansion draft (assuming we can't trade him). Looking at projections for the next 2 or 3 years there really isn't room for a 3rd line center making that much money.

2017-2018
Vancouver
  LW C RW
1 D. Sedin H. Sedin M. Granlund
2 Baertschi Horvat Goldobin
3 Eriksson Sutter Rodin
4 Boucher Gaunce Grenier

  McKenzie   Hamilton
  LD RD
  McEneny Neill
  Brisebois Subban
  Cederholm Nilsson
  Olson Stewart

Note: Assume LV takes Sbisa, Dorsett Career Done w/neck
Note: Red indicates AHL contract
Note: Blue indicates I think they'll be moved/not signed
Projection: Canucks Draft #5, pick Lijlgren/Vilardi/Petterson who are ready to compete for lineup 2018-2019
Note:Orange

 Likely overmatched for role

After next year, I can see the sedins resigning either 1 year at a time or maybe a 2 year deal. The management wouldn't have sat them down and talked them through the direction if they didn't see them as a part of the near future. Yes, we are definitely missing a top 6C in both cases... maybe Little or Turris don't resign and could short term fill that roll or whomever we draft this year may be able to fit in (I've got a feeling we end up drafting Liljegren though)

2018-2019   2018-2019
Vancouver - W/ Sedins   Vancouver - W/out Sedins
LW C RW     LW C RW
1 Baertschi Horvat Boeser   1 Goldobin   Boeser

3 Hutton Gudbranson     3 Hutton Gudbranson
depth Pedan McEneny     depth Pedan McEneny

Utica   Utica
LW C RW     LW C RW
Dahlen Gaudette Carcone     Dahlen Gaudette Carcone

Stukel Abols Lockwood     Stukel Abols Lockwood

  Juolevi Subban       Juolevi Subban
  Cederholm Stewart       Cederholm Stewart

Looking at this try not to get too wrapped around the Utica and depth players, thats just a total shot in the dark for next year let alone 2 years out.

I really doubt that Biega would be the Vegas fodder in the scenario you presented. Even if we lose a D man, I doubt it would be Biega over Pedan due to age and potential. I really think they would select a forward from us and that would probably be Gaunce.

I'm of a mind that we're gonna lose Sbisa at the expansion draft. In a perfect world, we would be able to trade a defensman and not lose anyone noteworthy, but I get the feeling that trades are going to be very hard to come by until expansion has ended. I think our team is in better shape than most for the expansion draft and I wouldn't want to take on a player that needs protecting, so I can't imagine many other teams would want to either.

i think that vegas will view the canucks as a team without worthy prospect to meaningfully take and use to build a team or to trade to reshape whatever team they are building

i think they will look for a canuck prospect with a low salary so they can just fulfill their requirement to take one player from each team

if i was vegas i would avoid sibisa's contract (if he really has value he will be traded before the ed happens anyway, if he cannot be traded ii doubt vegas will take him on)

I'm all for Cramarossa sticking around through next season.

if he can play good defensive hockey and keep playing his in your face type game, we might have a decent role player going forward. Especially if Dorsett careers in jeapordy.

i think they would be stupid not to take him. Say they give him more of an opportunity, he has a good season and sell off a UFA for some draft picks at TDL for a great draft.

Can we expose Eriksson or buy him out?  I know he has a NMC but what if the Canucks asks him to waive his NMC?  Eriksson may refuse initially but tell him it's either waive NMC or we will buy him out; pick your poison.

No team will take him on because he has such huge signing bonuses, 7 mil this year and next. He is paid 8 million this year and next year and signing bonuses can't be included in salary retention. He never need an NMC, that albatross is grounded here in Vancouver for the duration. If bought out they will be paying for him until 2027, great deal that genius concocted. Still it would be worth it for the Nucks to buy him out.

Could Miller be re signed before the end of the year and exposed to LV ? That could protect Gaunce and Sbisa , Miller gets closer to his wife, gets to control his salary rather than going on the open market at the end of the year. LV gets a good starting goalie to build with.

just a thought

Eriksson is a good player, but he's having a rough year. Started off terribly with the own goal in his first game. He was supposed to play with the Sedins this season, but Willie  switched up the lines, and they weren't producing anyway. He never really got his game going and has been just okay.

But it's his first year on a new team. I would say give him next year to bounce back.

Some hard decisions.

I think pre ED I would try to Blow Tanev out to Arizona for Keller + if possible.

Draft I'd target Mittlestadt if top 5 and Pettersson if top 10.

Off season I'd do my dangdest to sign Aston Reese and of course Boeser. Give Bo, Tram, Gud their raises and try to sign Miller with the leftovers.

Then I would go full tank for the 2018 draft.

I'd keep Boeser, Gaudette, Virtanen, Reese, Dahlen, Keller if eligible and maybe even Goldobin if no need for waivers in Utica and gun for a 2018 Calder "winning environment".

At the 2018 deadline with a heavy heart I would sadly try to move the Sedins if need be retain salary as they would have to go to the same team + take an expiring cap dump to maximize return and make the trade happen. Try to grab an additional 1st and an A prospect or better.  Gun for first over all in the draft and add to our 2nd first to try to move up to another top 10. Select a couple stud muffins.

2018 offseason throw a suitcase of used to be Sedins money at Tavares,  and with the leftovers and maybe an asset if need to trade for an elite pest (younger) Marchand/Burr/Ruutu/Cooke type that can play up and down the lineup and torment the opposing team.

And the "pie in the sky" piece de resistance fully revamped 2018/2019 Canucks.

Keller Tavares Boeser

Dahlen Bo Goldobin

Baer/Granlund Sutter Eriksson (send Eriksson to the moon if Gaudette/Reese show signs of being ready)

Virtanen Gaunce Pest( moves up and down the lineup along with Virtanen to just plain be a nuisance)

Edler Stetcher (Trade Edler for whatever we can get the moment Olli shows he is ready. Move Sbisa down with Gud)

Hutton/Sbisa Tram

Olli Gud

Start whichever goalie is hot!

Now we gun for the playoffs! In a few years we could be in cup contention when our 2017/2018 picks are ready to slide on in.

Flame away. I had a bit of time on my hands so I figured I play fantasy land.

how stupid is this ?

pay him 20 million to buy him out plus 6 he earned this year

in effect pay him 26 million to play for the canucks for 1 year

and then he is free to sign a new contract for more money with any other team

i think he'd welcome the buy out

he won't waive.. that is not a threat . . that is an incentive to him to threaten to buy him out

No denying Errikson played like a disinterested perimeter softy this year though, right?

For once your not wrong! hope to see a bounce back from him cuz he hasn't been much good at all. If not we need to look at dumping him even If we have to pay a Granlund or something to do it.

I think it was more of a byproduct of the "system" than it was anything else. Erikkson still has miles left to go, but he needs to be utilized properly. I don't think he bought in early in the season, a new coach I believe would get more out of him. I'd like to see Gallant given a go, I'm not yet sold on Green, in any event I don't want another rookie coach.

Either offer Crawford the head coaching job, or Gallant or any other good established name that's out there this off season. If Green shoots for a HC position in the NHL, see if WD is willing to HC the Comets.
