He either gets traded this summer or maybe gets a shot with a new coach. Justin Schultz is a perfect example of a bad defensive player who is good offensively like Subban and is an effective player be sure he is deployed in the correct situations with a good defensive partner to stay at home and clean up his messes. The Canucks desperately need offence from the back end to support the forward group coming up. Subban has more offensive upside than any player on the Canucks. He has a great shot, great skating and hands, plus he plays bigger than his size and is not afraid to mix it up when necessary. I feel like the Canucks will regret letting him get away... The league is trending toward smaller and speedier skill players at forward and d. I really feel Subban could be a good new age d man in 3 years. JB, TG and WD are all better at talent assessment than you or anybody else at CDC and they don't seem to think so. Short of a epidemic that takes out four Dmen, Jordan Subban ain't playing defense for the Canucks. Just like Pedan is obviously not what the fans think he is, neither is Subban. Larsen and Biega are fringe NHLers yet both better than Subban and Pedan.

So you are saying the professional whose job it is to evaluate players to sign, draft, and trade for have never made a mistake? Ok

Ok Not this many good talent evaluators, and not with this large of a sample size. The Canucks are in desperate need of an injection of talent up and down the lineup. If they thought that ANY of those players would be the least bit helpful, don't you think they'd have given them a shot instead of signing Megna, Chaput, Larsen, Skille and Cramarossa? Especially Cramarossa, since it's been almost an entire season, and JB had so little faith in the Utica forwards he signed another team's castoff. I trust JB's ability to assess talent more than any Canuck's GM since Pat Quinn. He has shown an uncanny ability to make the smart call, even when it's not immediately apparent (Sutter, Sbisa, Grandlund), or popular (Lack, McCann). Other than Virtanen and Demko, everybody in Utica is simply there to fill out an AHL roster and act as an emergency call-up. The kids who we have playing in the CHL and NCAA who don't make the NHL roster this coming fall will be the first real prospect pool we've had at the AHL level in a long time. If you don't trust Subban as a d either flip him to a team that does. Or convince him he has a future as a winger. Don't just waste the asset like Forsling and get nothing from him. I agree about Grenier and Guance and all those other AHL types like Cassels are just plugs till the real prospects get here like Juolevi,Boeser, Gaudette, and Lockwood. Only real prospect on Utica is Demko.

He is the future for sure. Markstrom is the placeholder to follow Miller to buy time until Demko is ready for prime time. 2-3 years more waiting at most hopefully. I doubt there are many teams out there willing to trade for a 5'9" Dman who can't play defense. I will say the Forsling move was a mistake, but at the time the team was making a last gasp shot at the playoffs with the old core, and needed an NHL ready puck moving Dman because of injuries. Clendenning fit the bill. It was a trade made from a position of need, which is the worst position from which to trade.
Father Ryan
With Grenier having been sent back to Utica, and the signing of Shore, along with keeping Labate, I think the writing is on the wall for him. Time to play his best in Utica the remainder of the year, and then figure out if he wants to be a career AHL player, or go overseas. If he couldn't cut it in Vancouver this year, with the amount of opportunity he had (and evidently squandered), do you honestly think any other NHL team will do more than give him a pre-season look for 2-3 games, then send him down again? Such promise, and size; wasted on lack of effort and (apparently) lack of foot speed.
CeeBee51
There's a few ways for a player to get noticed. Get points, throw a few hits, get in a scrap, hustle your butt off etc. Not sure Grenier really did anything to get noticed.

Hoping he'd do enough to get noticed and stick around. But each time he came up, the intensity wasn't there and he never seemed able to translate his AHL play (which has been very good at times, albeit a tad inconsistent) to the NHL level. Seems like the more I cared, the more I'd get disappointed. So I started caring less, and that eased the disappointment. At this point, his demotion (and the uncertainty whether he'll even get re-signed) leaves me with a shrug of the shoulders and a resounding "meh." CRAZY_4_NAZZY
With an influx of new kids coming in next year cant see Canucks extending Grenier again. However could see Utica giving him a contract but his size will attract attention elsewhere. Gotta make room for Boeser and Jasek and give Virty some more ice time to grow his game
