I wouldn't expect the team to make the playoffs next season, however if it is/was as much of a f***up as this season. The team will likely have to start all over with new management and coaches, as I don't see the current management team keeping their jobs if the team does not progress further than where they are at now.

I think it will depend a lot on how prospects are looking at their respective levels/leagues more than how the Canucks themselves do.

How bright does the future look basically.

I rather have players that are good at hockey.

I don't doubt that character, leadership and intangibles are important but being good at hockey needs to be prioritized. You can find "character guys" for cheap through free-agency.

I wasn't a fan of the trade, but I like Guddy. You're right, no matter how tough it is to hear.

You're ferreting in and out of holes.

Guddy's defensive stats are as bad as his offensive stats. On paper, he's not a great defender. On paper, he generates very little, except goals against, IIRC.

Lets call a spade a spade here. I like Guddy, a lot, but the stats don't lie.

They do when you don't consider context and only look at then through a very reductive lens.

Honestly, I decided months ago to reserve judgement on Guddy until we actually see him play a full season and healthy. I don't see it being fair otherwise.

We need some toughness on D...ya Hutton dropped the gloves but ...nah....Tryamkin will fight when pushed and that's it unless Biega's in.

Guddy needs a full season's audience to get a good grasp on what he brings and even at that I suspect he becomes more valuable in the playoffs.

...scoring goals....not gonna happen.

I miss the days when our #1 prospect was a top ten prospect in the league (Cody Hodgson....) AND he looked good initially in a Canuck uniform.

Things are starting to look good on the farm now though (it'll just take a while).

Yup, when we start having Dahlen, Guadette, this years top 5 pick etc all start showing up things are going to start looking rosier. Never mind any surprises from the likes of Zhukenov et al.

In the immortal words of Mike Gillis: 'It's a process'.

Really hope who ever TL and co hire will be able to lift the team into the playoffs. This is a young team yes but they need to get some winning mentality instilled so the team will be ready for a deeper run in a couple years or so. I love the youth we have already in the lineup and making an impact like Hutty, Tram, Stecher, Bo, Baer, Granny, and Boeser who came in the final games of the season. I think if everything goes accordingly and no injuries occur and a more physical and offensive system is plugged in, this team can make some serious noise next season. We can't forget Benning gave Willie a crapshoot of a roster to work with so it's not all Willie's fault. He did what he could with the players he had. A full year of Guddy, Dorsett and Boeser and this team is a playoff team no doubt. Not to mention if Marky finally takes the reins and impresses with a heavy workload, then the team will surprise most. Adding Goldy and Dahlen will only help the team become much more of a threat and its going to be interesting what the coach does with Goldy as he had a little something going with the Sedins. Hope the coach keeps him with them as it will only help Goldy take his game into the next level and a good farewell tour to the Sedins if they become their former selves again

I never said it's about points. He's not good at defending, he's not good at moving the puck, he's not good at offense. He's not particularly good at anything except being a character guy.

He's been below average at pretty much everything you need to do as a D-man for his entire career. He's performed like a bottom-pairing D-man for his entire career because he has a bottom-pairing skill-set.

And it's extremely rare for players to "break out" at 25 years-old and 350~ games of pro experience, especially when they don't show the hockey IQ and puck skills that are required for a higher ceiling.

You haven't been watching hockey that long have you? It is a known fact that defensemen in the NHL often break out in their later 20s.
