CHYCHRUN
I haven't been on this forum since last years draft when I told you that the Canucks should trade down and select Chychrun. It's draft time again, so here is my scouting report on these players and the order of which I believe they should be ranked on Jim's board. 3 Mittelstadt - The most elite center available. Has excellent speed adjustments and agility, ability to spin of a check, crazy good hands, great passer, excellent shot. The full package. Faults: Some figure he might be best suited for the wing but I have no Idea where this comes from. Not great competition and was tough to scout. The real knock is; he's going to university next season. 4 Makar - The most prolific D-Man in the draft. Reminds me of Duncan Keith except Makar loves to shoot the puck. Has slick hands, one of the best skaters in the draft, he has PP QB written all over him. Faults: He's going to University next season. He was tough to scout as competition was sub-par. 5 Tippett - NO he's not a Center, NO he's not a D-Man, YES he is a winger.... He doesn't fit what the Canucks are looking for but this guy is a real hockey player. His speed is WOW. His slap shot is insane. He will be a no.1 winger on whatever team drafts him. If you want a difference maker, he would be the guy. 6 Glass - Loves to score goals. Has a nose for the net. Great 5 on 5 player. Has a terrific shot. Faults - Very thin in stature, looks clumsy when getting bumped or rubbed, needs leg strength, doesn't show great hands but makes up for it with his heart. 7 Vilardi - Big Big Man. Listed at 6.2 but hes a tank. Has second line center written all over him. Could play this up coming season. Hard to play against, dependable 2-way guy. Has a really good release on his wrist shot. A very safe pick and will be an NHL player and will help your hockey team. He's a winner. Could be a perfect fit for Dallas. Faults: Doesn't possess top end speed. His hands are good, not great. Won't be a no.1 line kind of guy. 8 Heiskanen - Haven't seen him play too much but what I have seen shows me he has a very good shot from the point. Not as skilled or as slick on his feet as Makar but could be a top pairing D-man one day. Safe pick. Not a sexy pick. 9 Liljegren - Can be a good player on the top of the blue line on an NHL PP. Can shoot the puck, and finds the net. Not great vision, might have difficulties in his own end defending NHL speed. I'm just not a fan and don't believe he will go in the top 5. Necas - Great speed.... I mean this guy can absolutely fly. Loves to set players up. Great vision. Faults: Doesn't shoot enough... even though his shot isn't too shabby. Needs to gain some muscle.... and I mean like 20 plus LBS of muscle. For the Canucks: Mittelstadt or Makar would be my choice.... At #5, they might just end up being the best players in this draft class. Sure they won't be in a Canuck uni next year but that's fine. Rebuilds take time. These 2 will be elite players one day.... top end talents. Wouldn't it be something if Jim could somehow land both of them? It would take a lot to get the 3 or 4 pick from Dallas or Colorado but you never know.
