[Report] Canucks Will Not Sign D Tate Olson

I watched this kid in person about 15 times last season and at least the same amount this season in the regular season in PG, as well as every home playoff game the past two seasons for the Cougars - imo this is not a significant loss of an asset.

Not really a big loss, and neither is Neill.... obviously we can't know at this point what they'll turn out to be in the future, but we're limited by contract spots and it just wouldn't be wise to sign them to play them both in the ECHL. The defense situation in Utica next season is going to be somewhat crowded and the signing of Chatfield pretty much guaranteed that one of Olson/Neill wasn't coming back.

That both of them are being let go perhaps says that management has an eye on another player like Raddysh. So if JB and staff evaluate that Chatfield and Raddysh are better than Olson and Neill, then it really is no loss. Brisebois will also be joining Utica, and Cederholm should be returning from Sweden. Subban. McEneny, and Sautner are already there, maybe Pedan too if say McEneny or Juolevi beat him out for an NHL spot. Then you'll need probably 2 UFA AHL vets to help stabilize and shelter the green kids coming in. We don't have space to develop that many defensemen at once.

Although I do find it laughable that Mackenze Stewart has an ELC. Probably one they wish they could undo, or terminate.

Benning made signings in the spring that took him close to the limit of 50 contracts.  Obvioulsy he's going to have to cast a critical eye on the RFA's this year.  It's something that happens every year to one degree or another.

RFA's not on the active roster:

Garteig

Pedan (signed)

LaBate

Zalewski

Grenier

McEneny

Rendulic

Nilsson

Raddysh is still in the playoffs for Erie - had a great season and commented that his dream is to sign with the 'Canucks or an NHL team' so perhaps this is part of retaining an extra contract spot for him.

he specifically said "Canucks"?

thanks, it would be interesting to see him at training camp. I would not expect him to make the team but just gauge where he's at.

but the real question is, how the heck is Rick Dhaliwal getting all these scoops? Lindens cycling buddy?

NHL.com has our guy Mackenze Stewart listed as 6'3" 240lbs and is also a LHD.... maybe thats part of this, giving this kid a bigger role in Utica next season? If we could get another guy up this size in a couple of years that wasn't a liability that would be a sweet addition to the bottom 6.

NIlsson signed in Sweden, so he isn't coming back either.  Frees up one more contract spot :)

None of those players are top six forwards in the NHL, or top four dman.

Maybe McEneny based off his play in the AHL, and that one game he played in the NHL with the Canucks last season.

Pedan, jury's still out on what kind of dman he can become

LaBate, Zalewski, Grenier, Rendulic - those players are players that are bottom six - even middle six is stretching it for those guys.

Garteig - seems like a backup role if he ever does make it to the NHL.
