Art Vandelay
https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1293577-offseason-outlook-vancouver-canucks Seems like this writer didn't watch the games, based on him saying Canucks need more consistent goaltending. Canucks need mostly, offence, and probably 75-100 more goals over the entire season. Defence was awful at times too, especially in generating offence. Edler regressed, Tanev injured a lot, Gudbranson injured a lot, and Tryamkin seemed to never get given consistent minutes, until the final 20 games. Loved Stecher/Hutton, but need more offence if the team is to succeed. Article ignored Boeser as a prospect, he did get 4 goals in a 1-8-0 stretch. He is the player (maybe only), that the Canucks can rely on going forward after Horvat. Not a very good article IMO, but this forum hasn't had much material in terms of canucks in a week or so. I'm on my phone and can't seem to embed the article... if someone would, that would be lovely.
stuman491
Offseason Outlook: Vancouver Canucks 2016-17 Grade: F The Vancouver Canucks finished the year with the second-worst record in the league, and if not for a few stellar individual performances from Bo Horvat and the remarkable ineptitude of the Colorado Avalanche, they could have easily finished dead last. To say that the Canucks hit some rough stretches last season would be the understatement of the NHL year. Vancouver managed losing streaks of at least three games a mind-boggling seven times, including eight- and nine-game tailspins. Daniel Sedin registered his lowest point total in four years, the blue line struggled mightily, and in net? Well, let's just say somewhere Roberto Luongo is smiling. Despite already owning a handful of exciting young prospects - such as Olli Juolevi, Nikolay Goldobin, and Jake Virtanen - Vancouver still badly needs an injection of talent before it can start calling itself a playoff contender once again. The above letter grade also corresponds fittingly with the category the Canucks should file their 2016-17 season under: F, for "Forget it ever happened." Free Agents Despite the majority of the Canucks' "core" returning next season, general manager Jim Benning still has a busy summer ahead of him with names like Erik Gudbranson, Ryan Miller, and Horvat on his restricted and unrestricted free-agent lists. ROUND PICKS 1 1 2 1 3 1 4 2 (Own + Sharks) 5 0 6 0 7 1 Summer Priorities 1. Ink Bo Horvat long term Horvat was by far Vancouver's best player last season, and let's be honest, after him, what do the Canucks have up front to rely on moving forward? I'll wait. 2. Strike gold at No. 5 If Vancouver didn't have bad luck they wouldn't have any at all. However, Cale Makar or Owen Tippet are two names that should still be available at No. 5, and both offer skill sets that would slot in nicely on the Canucks' roster. It will be interesting to see how the club rebounds from falling in the draft lottery for a second straight season. 3. Stop the bleeding in net The goalie situation in Vancouver has been unsettled since the Luongo-Eddie Lack fiasco that plagued the club during the 2013-14 campaign, and last season was no different. Miller and Jacob Markstrom were each given an opportunity to claim the cage for themselves, but both netminders struggled to find consistency and the team as a whole suffered because of it. If the Canucks want to even start dreaming of the postseason, they will have to find an answer in the blue paint, and fast. 2017-18 Outlook Despite Vancouver's crop of exciting young talent - both NHL-ready and otherwise - the next few seasons will be painful for Canucks fans. The team was dealt another raw hand in the draft lottery and will be forced to select outside of the top three once again, further slowing the rebuild of a club in need of help up and down the lineup. In short, a lot of things need to go right in the next few months for Vancouver to have a successful 2017-18 season. If the Canucks can manage to draft well with their top pick, make smart moves in free agency, and get some form of consistent goaltending, then they may be able to treat their fans to playoff puck for the first time since 2015. Don't hold your breath, Vancouver.
Pernell Karl
Same old doom & gloom from eastern media. Nothing they haven't been writing about all season, lets get to this draft already

Putgolzin
This reads like a writer who last paid attention to the Canucks in '11 playoffs. I bet his editor made him remove "pumping his tires" from some part of the first draft.
Where's Wellwood
The fact that they suggest Tippett when we need a centre and Benning has publicly stated as such shows how much they know. Glass, Vilardi, or Mittelstadt if we pick centre.

Uhm....if not for Miller this season could have been catastrophically worse. Marky also showed some good moments. Goaltending was far from a top 3 issue for this team last season.... Zedlee
I stopped reading when the writer said our goaltending was not good. Miller was outstanding this year and probably is our MVP. Goaltending was the only strength we had this year! What else does the writer get wrong?
PhillipBlunt
Another useless article from back east. Not one fan out here could glean anything remotely useful from that outside of a good wipe. Thanks for the pathetically researched article there, Flip Livingstone. What kind of a name is that?

I didn't stop reading but his credibility went out the window. Our goals against wasnt terrible, we lost a lot of close games,as usual the offence let us down. GB5
unsettled goaltender situation in Vancouver since 2013-14? It's been pretty clear that Miller is the starter and he has been very good on a team that is not so good.

bloodycanuckleheads
Quote Seems like this writer didn't watch the games, based on him saying Canucks need more consistent goaltending. Canucks need mostly, offence, and probably 75-100 more goals over the entire season. Ummm, our goaltending isn't actually very good. It looks better than it is - because we are so bad. Bad teams always seem to make their goalies look stellar (Florida, for instance, not to mention Buffalo). It's kind of counter-intuitive. Like how the Canucks corsi looks OK, even though we are one of the worst teams in the league. Look at our stats, and we seem to be holding our own. But, the stats are misleading. Being god-awful, we tend to be down one-to-nothing very early in most games. And, NHL coaches tend to sit back on leads. So, five minutes into most games, our opponents were sitting back, nursing a lead. They stop trying to play offense, and focus on defense. So, the play tends to turn our way. And, all the shots start coming from our side (and our corsi rises). It doesn't mean we can actually hold our own against NHL competition, it just means that we are utterly awful and always playing from behind. It's the same with goaltending. You face completely different shots, depending on whether your team is winning or losing. And, not just that, when your team is terrible, your defenders aren't fighting to get in front of every single shot - and you actually see the puck better! There aren't as many furious scrambles right in front of the net. Etc... You are bang-on about us needing 85 more goals though. We need two generational superstars to just miraculously appear on our roster. Somehow...

I believe that goaltending wasn't the reason why canucks were so bad. It may have been sub par, (I think it was average), but to name goaltending as a top 3 issue? That's crazy. Hence, why I don't think the writer watched the canucks this year. I wasn't saying goaltending wasn't bad. Other than getting Boeser signed, Horvat to getting to 50 points; Goaltending would be top of the list of good for the year. Being at the top isn't necessarily good though, because the team is that bad.
combover
Goaltending was outstanding in Vancouver and had it not been for miller this club would have been worse than the avs. As for a successful 17-18 season a lottery win or a top four would make it a success. Let miller let go ala ufa, play the Cr.p out of the kids and accept this team is years away.
Wilbur
Goaltending tired as the season came to a close, but yeah, goaltending is probably the least of the Canucks worries.
Beeekz37
Typical east coast article about a west coast team. Garbage. Writers are in bed when the game starts and piece together their info in the morning from other sportswriters. Goaltending was fine. Could have been better at times but it wasn't like we were going to be a post season threat by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not upset with were we ended up, but the lottery still stings a bit.... Next year will be better. I'm not asking for playoffs, but I am hoping to be out of the cellar.
