the 1910 chicago cubs poem by franklin p adams. about the greatest double play players at that time.

" tinker to evers to chance."

the trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,

tinker and evers and chance,

ruthlessly pricking our gonfalen bubble,

making a giant, hit into a double -

words that are heavy with nothing but trouble

"tinker to evers to chance"

no, it was before my time too. but a famous bit of writing back then.

I believe they were the most famous double play combination for decades after their careers ended. They will always be part of baseball lore.

there are so many stories in sport's history that gets forgotten as years go by. i love it when someone reminds me of those moments and then they live again. AJ brings back canuck lore. i enjoy his research. i think my favourite book was written by casey stengel about the new ny mets,  doesn't anyone here know how to play this game?
