[Proposal] Van-NYI

Recommended Posts

To Canucks: Andrew Ladd, LW

To Islanders: Loui Eriksson, LW/RW

Reasoning:

Firstly, both would have to waive their NMC.

Both have roughly the same contract (Ladd has one more year).

Ladd = $5.5 AAV (Salary remaining is 7.5+6+5+4+4+4=30.5)

Eriksson = $6 AAV (Salary remaining is 8+7+5+4+4=28)

Ladd is from Maple Ridge (closer to home)

Eriksson I don't think liked the high pressure and high travel hockey market so he gets away to a low key less travel team. Plus he gets to play with Tavares.

Ladd is better suited for Pacific Division (I think). Vice versa Eriksson in the Metropolitan.

Both had so-so years point wise although Ladd had a quiet 23 goals which isn't too shabby.

Anyways, just killing time until the draft.

Cheers.

I think this is the first time I actually agree with a trade proposal.

The only trick would be weather or not Ladd would waive to go from a team with at least a remote chance to one that is in total rebuild.

I would rather have Eriksson and i was happy we didn't get Ladd ....i may have a little hate on for him from his Chicago days but none the less i have never been a fan of his play.

Hopefully Eriksson bounces back next year with a good season to silence the haters.

Value is close but with 23 goals the edge likely goes to Ladd. Also the canucks don't really need the 500k a year they'd save from Ladd at the moment. That extra year on his contract could bite the canucks in the butt later

Not a bad trade, but Loui Eriksson could have a strong comeback year under a new coach. I think he will be determined next season hoping to prove that he can still be a solid top-six forward.

I would probably bet on Loui to have 20 goals 50+ points this year

I actually like it and I don't say that often. It's nice to see a proposal that does NOT involved Tanev for once. lol

We might need to sweeten it with a pick or something mind you as we'd probably benefit a little more from the trade in my opinion.

I originally wanted Ladd over Eriksson.

However, that extra year makes me worried on Ladd's contract.

But i dont think Ladd wants to move..plays with John Tavares, and the Islanders are closer in competing for the cup than the Canucks.

Ladd didn't get much time with Tavares as it turns out,  so this might not be an issue.  But I don't think Ladd wants to spend his next five years getting back to the playoffs.  For better or worse we are stuck with LE.

As an aside I originally wanted E. Staal and got razzed for the suggestion....a return to form last season might have changed some minds, at a reasonable cap hit.  But then again it would have prolonged our misery.

Hard pass on that deal for me. I like his odds of bouncing back far more than Ladd, who had been slowing down for a couple of years already in Winnipeg.

That said, if NYI is willing to sweeten the pot, I'm more than open to listening. I've heard Strome has been in and out of the doghouse ;)

Maybe Loui has a return to form in the upcoming season ala Staal.

Ladd took a while to get going to NY and had zero chemistry with JT.  I don't think his style of play ages well, so I would rather hold Louie, and see if he can get back to form on the wing with Horvat.  if we want something from NYI we should be looking at Travis Hamonic as he might not be protected in the ED.
