PunjabiCanucks
From an article on Sportsnet (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-might-waive-no-move-clause-ahead-expansion-draft/ ) 6. Watch New Jersey in the lead-up to the draft. There is a growing suspicion the Devils feel their greatest need is on the blue line, and there are some good ones they like (Miro Heiskanen? Cale Makar?). Anyway, would GM Ray Shero take one of them at the top, or would he move down just a little bit, adding something else, if he knew he could still get what he wanted? Vancouver could use a centre, for example. The compensatory pick from Columbus for hiring John Tortorella (55th overall) is something they dangled to see if it could help them move, but so far, no dice. Now if is this true, and NJD does want to move down what will it take? Is this a start: Baertschi + 5th OA + our 2nd rd pick? Or am I seriously under shooting.... mll
They are looking for defence so you send them a winger?
PunjabiCanucks
If they want to draft a Defender sure, but If they are interested in Tanev could definitely work around that if they are in a win now mode. They are in the bottom of the league in GF and GA... Now is Tanev and our 5th a bit in the ballpark area

We should ask Philly what it would take to get their 2nd overall. I would offer Tanev, Sven and one or both of our 2nd rounders. NJ prolly isn't in win now mode enough to trade down, but philly has a win now lineup, deep at forward/centre.

Report is that Philadelphia is unlikely to move the pick. They traded for Filppula at the TDL because they were weak at C. They see Schenn as a winger and Couturier is more of a C3. Konecny played wing and it doesn't look like they'll move him to C. Where is their C depth going forward?

I would love to see us move into the top two but i think Philly is our best shot to move up.

I was thinking a swap of our first and a + and then Jersey could take one of the top defense from this draft. I thought Philly would make more sense as well since they are competitive and already have good center depth but Hextall seems keen to keep the pick. Personally I'd be happy if we could use some other assets and get the 3OA off of Dallas

Where is their C depth going forward? Philly is in a better position to win now with their core at 26 and older. Tbay paid a 4th/7th round pick to dump filpula on philly. Couts is 23 and more than adequate as a 2/3 C. Anyways my point is that Philly would look at a deal before NJ would. They are in a much better position to win now than NJ. Mebbe they like Markstrom as they need a goalie too. In terms of their C depth, looks good, giroux, couts, filpula, cousins, weal, laughton and they got a good C prospect rubstov. Philadelphia is the one that said that they are unlikely to move their pick. Hextall wants his players to mature in the AHL until they are ready to make the team better. A lot of their Ds are very young and will be with them for quite some time. I think they want to prepare for the next wave of players at forward too. Filppula was a cap dump on Tampa side but not for Philadelphia. He's a 5M cap hit with a NMC. Hextall says he's going to help the transition to a younger team. Would think to get this done they would want Horvat and Canucks No. 5 pick. That would seem unfair to many Canuck fans so is probably "about right". They could sell it on bringing back their original pick too. At no. 5 they get another center for development and Horvat from now. They would have no interest in a winger and 2nd round picks. The 2nd round has been known to pump out elite D-men. Don't be suprised when they draft a Center first overall and a D-man with their 2nd.

Maybe they are just playing the field, which they should otherwise they wouldn't be doing their jobs right, to see what sort of deals are available. Their prospect pool is way behind ours, in the bottom third, perhaps they want to get a few players to help this. Patrick would be a good start, and way more of a gaurantee NHLer than the rest.
