[Proposal] Vancouver Colorado

Recommended Posts

Call me greedy but it would really bug me to lose any player of significance......sbisa or gaunce would bug me. I'm not exactly clear on how the ED works but from what I understand if we trade sbisa for example next in line would be gaunce.

Does this trade give us something in return for these players and serve a purpose for both us and the avalanche?

Sbisa and gaunce to the avs

Beauchamin and Colorado's second (32nd OA)

I'm thinking that normally this isn't fair value but maybe under the circumstances it is. Keep in mind we would otherwise lose on if these players for nothing.

Francois can be dealt next deadline for an asset depending on what kind of clause he has. I don't think Vegas will snag him from us.

Anyway everyone around here seems to be looking for a home run deal with tanev.

Maybe something a little simpler would work too .

This does bring up an interesting point..............and I agree with the poster that suggested that we are not getting a 32nd OA for together or overall.............but....

Loosing Sbisa for nothing would hurt

Loosing Gauce would hurt a lot less

So I suggest...............moving both in much the same manner..........

Sbisa + 2017 49th OA to Colorado for 32nd OA

Gaunce + 2017 64th OA to Buffalo for their 39th OA

Now we are going to loose one, which is probably Sbisa, but if he is not there, then they would take Gaunce..............so move both for a one round up grade....

Does it get good value...no, but does it give us better options.........yes

Beauchemin has a NMC.

Teams only have until this Monday 5pm ET to ask a player to waive his NMC for the expansion draft.  If they fail to ask a player to waive he will have to be protected unless the team buys him out.  The player has until the 16th to answer.

I don't want to seem mean or that I don't appreciate Sbisa's contributions.  But I do want to point out that there was a lot of belly aching on this site over his contract and cap hit.  Benning obviously saw his worth and this noise disappeared and was replaced with angst over losing him in the upcoming draft.

Other teams, contenders and deeper teams, are going to lose possible star players or at least good ones.  What is PIT and WNP ( contender, deeper) going to lose?

Sbisa is replaceable by a servicable UFA.  Gaunce can't score in this league ( yet and possibly never) so is easily replaceable in house.

The league added one team.  We aren't going anywhere soon so let's not worry about losing a player...it will open up a spot.  Who knows it may be a blessing in disguise.

If Vegas is agreeing to take on bad contracts for picks/prospects they may be looking for a cheaper contract than Sbisa's. They may very well pass on Sbisa for a cheaper contract such as Gaunce, Subban or maybe even Pedan.

Subban is exempt.

McPhee says he mostly wants to build his team through the draft and will be looking to bring in young players who will still be with the team in 3-4 years.  So Sbisa might not be his target - he is UFA in a season.

Yup, I screwed up on that one. Maybe we could offer them Subban though to get them to draft a more expendable player than Sbisa. Obviously, we would really want to retain Sbisa to make such an offer.

I don't think Vegas would pick Sbisa - he is UFA in a season and not really the age group they seem to be targeting.

McPhee also wants to pick players on behalf of other teams to acquire additional draft picks.  I don't see another team asking Vegas to pick Sbisa on their behalf.  Sbisa spent a lot of the season playing with Tanev and teams might wonder how well he would do away from him.

I don't know if there are any unprotected Canucks that other teams will entice Vegas to take. Sbisa being a free agent after next season could be seen as a positive for Vegas. They may view him as a reasonable trade chip at the next trade deadline. There are so many variations of how Vegas may approach the draft that it really is a crap shoot to guess what they may or may not do at the draft. We may get a better sense over the next week or so as I think we are going to see a fair amount of movement before the draft.

Less than a week.  Teams have to submit their expansion list on Saturday.  There's a roster/trade freeze during the expansion process - it runs from 17 June 3pm ET and 22 June 8am ET.

This week is going to be busy.  Monday is the deadline for teams to ask players with NMCs to waive - they have until the 16th to agree.  The buyout window opens on the 15th (re players with NMCs who refuse to waive could be bought out).
