[Proposal] Offseason Trades

Recommended Posts

Here's my thoughts on the off-season.

EXPANSION DRAFT

Offer a 4th round pick to Vegas (maybe a 3rd) for them to not select Sbisa.  Since they have lots of other options on defense around the league, and Sbisa isn't young or high end, they'll likely take the draft pick and another player.

TANEV TRADE

We all seem to agree it's best to cash out high on Tanev rather than keep him through the rebuild.  Buffalo is ready to take the next step, and have tons of good young forwards but need an anchor on D.

Trade Tanev (maybe with a draft pick) to Buffalo for Sam Reinhardt then draft a defenseman (Cale Maker) at #5

EDLER TRADE

After the expansion draft.  Tampa Bay needs quality veteran defenseman, and need to cap dump badly.

Trade Edler and Baerstchi to Tampa Bay for Drouin, 1st round pick #14 overall, Callahan (cap dump, but also good player and good locker room leader when healthy), Garrison (cap dump).

This deal gives them a top defenseman, a quality young forward to replace Drouin in the lineup and over 10 million dollars of wasted cap hit off the books, replaced with 6.8 million of cap hit of valuable players.

ISLANDERS TRADE

The Islanders need to shake up their roster.  They need to be more competitive right away in order to keep Tavares with them.

Trade Sutter, Gudbransson to the New York Islanders for Thomas Hickey, Jaroslav Halak (cap dump), 1st round pick #15 overall.

They add a quality veteran forward and defensemen.  They can afford to lose Hickey with Gudbransson coming in plus their defensive depth.  They use the cap space from Halak towards Sutter as well as extra to sign a FA.

POTENTIAL DRAFT PICK TRADES

Offer New Jersey and Philly a deal of picks #14 and #15 overall for #1 or #2 overall for Patrick or Hischier.  If they don't take it, then select best players available at #14 & #15.

So we trade Tanev, Edler, and Gudbranson but hey we better not lose Sbisa to Vegas, is that your thought process ?

As nice as it would be to acquire all those picks and young players it would leave our Defense crippled for years .
