(Discussio) Trade worth?

Recommended Posts

So now we know what Druin is worth, a prospect D-man with 4 games in the NHL!

And for the most part, some in the CDC seem to think that Tanev is worth less. The start of the trades have begun and to what end we will see for the Canucks.

Looking at the 5th spot, maybe Glass, the more i read the better i feel about his selection. Middlestat shouldn't be on our radar, and if you believe what you read NJ may decide to go with D. So maybe the top 2 centres in the draft fall to 2 and 3. Is there room to grab no#3 in a trade. But if Van looses Sbisa to Vegas and then trades Tanev, the team will have lost 3 D-men in a matter of a couple of months and wouldn't be able to cover the loses. The next month and a half will be Bennings to gain trust or loose his job. And for one, i can't wait to see what unfolds.

1) Tanev + CBJ 2nd round pick for 3OA + Goalie Contract

2) Trade our 3rd round pick to LV to take Gaunce?

3) Trade Goalie acquired from Dallas at the deadline

4) Trade Gudbranson for a 2nd or 3rd pick at the deadline, unless he shows signs of a solid defencemen that we want to keep moving forward

Why would we do this? Gaunce is a cheap serviceable fourth liner, no point giving up a 3rd round pick so a team takes him seems like a waste of two assets.

You can't be serious.....have you even seen Sergachev play?

If you're using games played as a metric for trade value then I guess Jagr is the most valuable player in the league right?

I only do it so we keep Sbisa...since everyone is worried what will happen on defence if we lose Tanev in a trade and Sbisa in the expansion draft.

How are Tanev and Sergachev even comparable? One is a player making millions and the other is on his ELC. One is a shutdown D, another has significant offensive upside. One needs to be protected in the expansion draft, the other is ineligible to be selected by Las Vegas and requires no protection. One has thrived despite the lack of pedigree, the other was a Top-10 pick in a pretty good draft. Very different assets to acquire. Not to mention, Tampa Bay had a very specific problem with a very specific return in mind. Too many forwards who required too much salary, and a desire for a long-term asset on defense, that wasn't expansion draft eligible. All boxes checked.

i really want that 3rd overall but as u mentioned we cant loose 3 NHL dman in matter of 2months. I dont think Tanev gets traded, if he does we are depleted on the right side unless JB has another trade in place where he could acquire another RHD.

What? He was drafted less than a year ago... He didn't look out of place in the NHL during his 4 games either. Sergachev has a ton of potential, like top pairing defenseman ceiling.

So much wrong with this assertion (not just the spelling).    Tampa could not afford Drouin's contact either which is important consideration in trades in CAP era.

Oh, and if only 4 games is worth so little in your mind, I am sure NJ would be happy to trade their No. 1 pick for, say, Edler as he has LOT of games in NHL.   I am hoping Canuck GM reads this and gets on that.

Just saying, overall, that you cannot draw such conclusions from a trade (all trades are a complex mix of salary retention/dump/positional need etc.) and then apply it to any other hypothetical trade.   This isn't Craigslist in terms of buying cars and doing comparative shopping.

Na wasn't and didn't, i was referring to the fact that many have Tanev rated as a 5th or 6th D-man, when in fact a majority of the experts rate him as a 2nd or 3rd D-man on any team. And one of the top Defensive D-man in the league. Sure he's not A lidstrom or Robinson. But still a very good, reliable, D-man who can make a first pass. If Phanuef can get 6 mil for being able to hit, and shoot. Then get traded for very good pieces, then i'm sure there is a manager who would pay for a player that can actually defend. There are so many facets to the game, that most people don't know about or don't realize the importance to good team play. Remember that a draft pick whether 3rd or 33rd is a project and not a player yet on a team. Drouin is a player ( proven) what TB got back in my mind is a prospect (albeit a top end prospect) Even a prospect is not a pick. Do you remember where Tanev came from, or how about Edler. If a player elevates himself to a point, where his worth is 2 prospects and a player in a trade then that is what it is. No matter if you signed as a free agent or a 1st overall. I truly believe Tanev is worth more than a 3rd pick in a bad draft, so adding more pieces would be over payment for sure.

I would have easily traded tanev straight up for serg.
