[Report] Anaheim puts Despres on waivers for buy out purposes

He missed all season with a concussion.

I thought teams are not allowed to buy out an injured player.  Does it mean he has recovered?

I would think he must have been cleared by doctors or Anaheim would not be able to make this move. I would claim him and leave both Sbisa and Depres available to Vegas......we keep whoever they don't select.

Such a odd coincidence with him. Some rumours of depression/concussion right around the time the ducks needed to shed some cap for lindholm then he was never heard from again till now

its almost like Anaheim just faked an injury and told him to go home...like lupul in Toronto

He suffered a concussion in October and has only played that one game all season.  He was just starting a 18.5M contract.

He might have decided to simply move on from hockey.  He's only 25.  I guess we'll know more in the coming days.

Why not Bieksa?

Because they have a deal in place with Vegas.   It will be announced on the 21st - teams were asked to not leak any information on pre-arranged deals.

so they move out Despres and Bieksa and don't lose any youth to Vegas... damn, thats pretty good.

Its also good for increasing our chances of getting a deal done with Dallas for that 3rd pick. Who's left for Dallas to trade with for top pairing D if ANA is off the table, Montreal and Minni do a deal, and Nashville protects 4D?

Not sure about not losing youth.  It's more that they were able to agree with Vegas who to pick but that has a cost - either draft picks or a promising prospect.

If he wants a landing spot where he might get a chance at minutes, he is a good replacement for Sbisa if we lose him, Heck a third pairing with Gudbranson would look nice (compared with or alternatives) even if by chance Sbisa didn't get picked up.

We can't compete in skill level with teams like Edmonton, so instead of chasing their style why not have some big guys like with with good mobility who can make life miserable for their forwards.

Trade Hutton while his value is fairly high:

Edler-Stecher

Sbisa-Tanev

Despres-Gudbranson

Pedan-Biega

Not much offense, but a good level of protection for our small, skilled, and soft forward corps.  Certainly a decent transition step to give Juolevi another year to develop.

meant roster youth, but for sure there would be a pick involved, maybe that 2nd rounder they have from SJS.

I would suppose so but I am pretty sure he's on number 3 or more now, he's going to have a tough time finding much more than low end year to year contracts for a few years till he shows he's not susceptible to more.

I have a hunch that Depres is medically cleared to play but it may not be safe for him to play long term. I like the player and his annual cap hit of 3-4 million isn't too bad but I wonder what kind of player he will be.

Hutton? Might as well ask to trade Horvat and blow everything up while you're at it.

He took an elbow to the head from Tyson Barrie which gave him a concussion, then on his 1st game back took a crosscheck to the head from Landeskog and that's all she wrote.
