He missed all season with a concussion.

I thought teams are not allowed to buy out an injured player.  Does it mean he has recovered?

That rule is only applied to aspiring Cdn teams like Vancouver.

Key US markets use the optional, invisible rulebook.

Hutton? Might as well ask to trade Horvat and blow everything up while you're at it.

???

You are comparing Hutton to Horvat?  It isn't even in the same universe.

Hutton is fine, but not likely to become a game breaker.  Not a great offensive player and not a great defensive D.  Just a guy that can eat 2nd pairing minutes consistently without hurting you.  That isn't a knock on him, those guys are still valuable.

In the succession plan, presumably you want Juolevi developing for a few years in that 2nd pairing LD spot.  That means Hutton would push down to the 3rd pairing if he was still here.  Their game isn't that dissimilar, except Juolevi probably being a better version of it.

Now or after this season is probably the time to extract some asset value for Hutton.

To be worthwhile this season it would only be as I said, in the unlikely scenario that we didn't lose Sbisa to expansion AND managed to sign a young guy with upside like Despres.

He took an elbow to the head from Tyson Barrie which gave him a concussion, then on his 1st game back took a crosscheck to the head from Landeskog and that's all she wrote.

He's probably hoping the Avs doesn't make a waiver claim for him, lol.
