In the past 3 years, I've wanted at the start of the season 3 years ago in 2014 Honka, then we sucked and selected 6th (everyone wants Honka) 2 years ago in 2015 Zacha or Prorov then we were good and got the amazing Boeser last year Chychrun and we sucked and got Juolevi I'm on the board for all of these kids in the first round and I love defense. I usually stick by my gut instinct. This year was Liljegren to start and then Makar. I'll stand by either of them and won't have a choice because the toronto sports networks will be forcing Liljegren on us for the next decade or more.... He really matured and his decision making and risk taking really improved along with his skills they have gone to a whole nother level of craziness. Liljegren is very similiar to Karlsson at the same age IMO. Think you forget Karlsson was a late round pick for a reason Karlsson was picked 15th not late round. He was huge riser in his draft because when people saw him they saw his elite talent. Liljegren has done nothing but fall all season. Karlsson was 5' 11 and 165lbs when he was drafted and Liljegren is 6 feet 200lbs. There was a lot more room to grow, physically, for Karlsson. Phat Fingers
10 minutes ago, DownUndaCanuck said: Completely agree, this is Benning's career on the line. Pettersson is going to go one of two ways - the next Nick Backstrom/Datsyuk or a complete flop and ends up back in the Swedish Elite League for his career. High risk, high reward. JB has always been a ballsy GM but this is the Canucks future on the line and he's pulled a gusty move. Lets all just hope it works. Pettersson, Horvat, Sutter, Gaudette, Gaunce. That center depth is average in the West. We still need to be better, and we've got the luxury of being able to flip Pettersson to the wing (Gaudette and Sutter and Gaunce too, to an extent). I wouldn't be happy with that core going into the playoffs on a deep run just yet. Of course the next burning issue is defence which we can address in the 2018 draft, but I don't like how the Pettersson-Horvat duo stack up against McDavid-Draisaitl or even the Flames or Sharks. Yup yup, JB has put it all on the line with this pick. He had to know that the fan base would be way more behind Glass, the Aqualinis must have wanted Vlardi... If Horvat can keep improving he becomes a poor mans LD or SM. Pettersson easily is our most skilled prospect including Boeser and OJ and is likely only behind the twins in terms of pure skill on the roster. The question will always be Glass vs Pettersson. I wanted Glass over Pettersson. But if JB lands a Backstrom out of the draft, it payed off. He could come straight into the AHL this year, really skinny, but so was Nylander, Johnny Hockey heck even Greyzky was a bean pole. It isn't a reason not to take a player IMO, but isn't preferred either. So for JB who prizes meat and potatoes took a guy based on pure skill, it means he went out of his comfort zone. He believes in this pick. That says something to what the nucks see in Pettersson to draft him in spite of being a bean pole. BTW, we always say the Gradin finds jems, this time his guy was taken, that also is significant, no way they take Pettersson if Gradin is against it. The two best scouts in the Org had to both like Pettersson to take him over Glass. EmW Edited June 24, 2017 by Eastcoast meets Westcoast
DownUndaCanuck
Lots of good defencemen still to be taken, hopefully one slips to us. Hague of course. Timmins would be lovely. Jokiharju would be interesting. Pierre-Olivier would be most likely to slip. Vaakaneinen and Westerlund might be there in the 2nd round. Surely JB will go after these guys now. No more wingers.
