That line up would be destroyed but have absolute power when on their game. But with-out Veterns when they are hemmed in they might not recover and really blow up any gains in confidence.

That lineup was a "best case" scenario...and I did forget Baer and assumed Granlund would be the guy gone this summer but Gagner would be my choice to ship off...

so with Baer:

EP / Bo / BB

Baer  / Gaudette / Goldy

Lipsiec or Dahlen / Sutter / Virtanen

Gaunce /  MacEwen / Eriksson

Gagner or Granlund....whichever doesn't get traded in the summer...and Dahlin probably has to play in the top 9...but really it is getting to be just "top lines" and then everybody else...there are no classic 4th lines anymore....

EDIT    ....Also without the Sedins...that is our lineup....who else do you have penciled in?

Assuming Point does not get there first, and already have moved the puck.

The game is also not just played in the corners. Its who has the puck to start and can hold onto it. Then beat their man and open up seems or lanes. Create chances.

Which leads back to Elias. Incredible balance. Even though he does not have shoulders the size of a truck. He puts his hip on defenders and holds the puck away from them with his reach. Still has complete manoeuvrability, which few do? Even more rare, can still dangle under such  pressure. Has his head up, makes unreal play after play, and undresses guys.  Watch him play > He always has the puck, not opposing teams big guys.

Better, he's always hounding the puck when he doesn't. Trying to get it back. Poking at the puck carrier. Jumping in lanes.  He's always stealing the puck. Battles for pucks better than you would think. He's always ''on!''

EP is smart. Smarts go a long ways to competing effectively. I don't want to discuss player for player, size vs skill as it is somewhat pointless. I assume we both agree you need a mix to be successful. E.g. I like Stetcher and I like Guds. Both righties. But we won't win a series dressing six Stetchers only. Or six Guds only. EP will get his chance in preseason. If he can handle it he stays. He gets a few games regular season. If he can handle it he stays. His biggest adjustment will be the small ice. As any European. He played well at World Juniors. But small ice NHL is a different animal. I look forward to seeing his progress next year.

I think you are very close to how he sees it. But if top 4 goes as you predict, I think Petterson are much more in play, than people expect... It is just ridicules how close these prospects are...

Dahlén-EP-Lind would look really good to start in Utica next year and tons of skill on that line would give everyone lots of confidence. Bring up each of them for a few games by Christmas when injuries pick up and see if any of them got it what it takes to stick with the team. Ship out excess smallish playmakers by trade deadline.

Well, you got it dead on so I have to get credit when it's due.

A lot of things still need to happen for my prediction to be proven right so no credit should be given yet. I just remember being so shocked that no one was talking about the kid. A lot of talk of Vilardi and Glass but Pettersson just fell through cracks with Canucks fans but also with the mainstream media. I think there was maybe only one or two other posters on here that wanted Pettersson. The arguments I got into in the draft threads are pretty funny now looking back at it though.

Are you really in Budapest?

What is it like there really?

I'm born and raised in Vancouver but my family is in Budapest so I live there for spurts throughout the year (probably like 3 months of the year). Going to be moving there permanently in the summer though. Because it's my home just as much as Vancouver I'm probably a little biased but it's incredibly beautiful. They don't call it the Paris of the east for nothing.

If you want to travel there, I'd recommend to do it in the summer cause it's by far the best time to go. They also tend to speak a lot more English now a days compared to when I was a kid so it shouldn't be that hard to get around however I will warn you that English is still very foreign if you leave the touristy places (even within them it can be hit or miss). Budapest has a special charm though cause although it feels like a big city it really isn't so you can explore around with relative ease. I'd highly recommend everyone at least stop by Budapest if they're in that region of Europe cause it truly is unique.

That's argument for.

The argument against keeping him away from the NHL is the older he gets, the harder it will be for him to get used to the smaller rink and the North American lifestyle. The longer he stays in Sweden, the more reluctant he will be to leave home.

Most of the Oilers' doomed prospects were Canadians. Even Yakupov played junior here. It's different for local guys. They have the advantage of not having to worry about different lifestyle, culture and not having to move so far away from home.

Imagine if Elias meets a Swedish sweetheart and she doesn't want to come to Vancouver....

In my opinion he should come next season. And if he is tough enough to play in the AHL, then he is tough enough to play in the NHL. AHL officiating is bush league relative to NHL's. He is safer in the NHL.

LOL

He is a 165 lbs and needs to get stronger. He is a driven personality and will want to succeed at the highest level. Relax on the sky is falling attitude.

Reminds me of my prediction in the Bo Horvat thread ::D I was bang on!

Your prediction does sound very accurate though. Good scouting job, Wonder Bread!

I wanted Pettersson or Mittlestadt, but had discounted the possibility of Benning taking EP.  I was very, very pleasantly surprised at the time.

Funny seeing the meltdown that happened collectively once the pick was made.

I’m not sure if I ended up saying anything stupid on here but I was freaking tf out when we picked EP. I wanted Vilardi but was expecting Glass.

On the one hand I think a thirty minute or one hour freeze of posting on CDC might prevent many of us from looking like jackarses but on the other hand the pure emotional, flying off the handle reactions, a la the Shinkaruk trade, are gold.

It's funny the amount of Canucks fans that had their pitchforks out after we took EP. I remember I made a damage control post to show we actually made the best pick and got absolutely blasted by the majority on here. Soon after that though the large media outlets started praising the pick and then mood started to change. It's always fun being a Canucks fan on draft day.

It really shouldn't have surprised people. Benning had made a few comments leading up to the draft that included Pettersson among the prospects he liked. I was ready for the Canucks to take one of him, Glass, or Vilardi and was pleasantly surprised that the team was willing to gamble on his upside.

There's always going to be people who don't like the pick but I feel the Pettersson pick was fairly tame compared to previous picks.  The meltdown with Virtanen over Nylander/Ehlers was incredible.  Juolevi over Tkachuk wasn't as bad at that but it was still quite heated.  A few people wanted Glass or Vilardi but it seemed most were happy we took a risk with the guy with the most skill and highest ceiling.  Just imagine right now if we had taken Glass....eesh.

Just to get an idea of how good Boeser has been. I was watching the Devils game and Hall scored his thirtieth goal.

Awesome comments! Plus two!

Yup, Brock is on 29 and going to hit 35, maybe 40??

Puts things in perspective. As does Elias being the best U20 Swedish player since Kent Nilsson over 30 years ago.

Special times could be coming!
