In the 3rd there was a lot of penalty killing that he could have been used on the tail end of, but wasn't and then as it got rougher, I think the coach kept the kids on the bench...which was fine. I would have to agree about his line, not really a fan either.

Backlund's alright but a bit weak in puck battles/retrieving pucks ...and Nyquist doesn't do that either...so... EP just had another nice shift...nutmeg'd a D. and just couldn't quite corral the puck for a break to the net. His next shift he rescue's Nyquist who had just lost a puck battle on the boards...wheels with the puck towards the net while feeding the point and then bumps Backlund out of the way to properly screen the goalie (Backlund was standing just to the side_) Edited May 6, 2018 by Rollieo Del Fuego
Rollieo Del Fuego
His next shift he lost the puck on the O. boards but ends up clearing the puck on the D. boards to create a 3 on 2...perfectly weighted to avoid icing...!
Rollieo Del Fuego
In the second period they Keyed on him more and in the 3rd there was so many penalty kills and it was Stanley Cup Playoff rough with players fighting for there countries...I think the coach just wanted to protect him a bit by sitting him and Lias too... EP doesn't have to learn how to deal with that level of physicality yet...give him another summer to get stronger and another year of regular season play and he will be soooo ready for the playoffs.... ...and so will we be....
Rollieo Del Fuego
We have to keep pumping these guys up...just watching Horvat...all he needs is a coach and a team and us fans telling him he is a legitimate #1 centre and and Allstar...Bo is making great plays but is playing 2nd fiddle to his linemates, with a bit of confidence he could be leading the team in points. It's the same for EP."..he has to start realizing how good he is and just make his moves at his normal super Alien speed...he is still trying to hard this game. The kids will be as great as we let them be....!

DollarAndADream
Yeah, Horvat and Pettersson definitely aren't being used as much as they're used to. It's not unexpected though. Nobody should have expected Horvat to light it up with McDavid, Eberle, etc on that roster. Horvat is a gamer, and is a big game player. He's not going to tear teams apart, but he will score when a big goal is needed. Pettersson, he just has been getting into the swing of things. He does not look out of place at all and is constantly creating chances. That's pretty amazing to see right away. I'm sure he'll start getting some points here and there as the tourney goes on, and maybe chemistry gets a little better out there. He's doing just fine. vannuck59
Clearly you are all looking threw your rose colored glasses , Pettersson needs more time to develop period Let him play another year in Sweden then bring him over. He needs to get stronger to play with the big boys rushing him will get him hurt . Give him time to develop more strength . One more year. Is needed. 1

Yeah, not like that buffed mountainman Ehlers who made in it his D+2 at about the same size.

If anything he needs to come play in Utica to adjust to the North American game. Not saying this is what I think is best for him, but it's better than going back to the SHL. Gaudette Celly
Elias destroyed the SHL in both the regular season and playoffs as a skinny teenaged boy. He has nothing to gain from another season of kicking puppies.
vannuck59
Utica is a lot rougher league a lot of Pro players played D + 2 in the SHL so he dominates anther year all that much better , why rush him clearly he needs more time to develop did you watch any of the world champ games .?

Ehlers had elite skating and agility when he broke into the league. He was never going to get hit. Pettersson doesn't have that skating or agility. I think Pettersson is in the NHL next year, but that's not a good comparison.

Yes it is, because they are both elusive and have on-ice awareness to not get head-down clobbered. Although Sbisa did nail him that one time pretty well...
