I'm still somewhat conservative in my estimates for EP this year. Judging by how he has performed on NHL sized ice in the past, I believe there is going to be a pretty significant adjustment period for the first 20-30 games. He'll get points on the PP for sure, but I imagine he'll be rendered somewhat ineffective 5-5 to start with. However, as the season progresses, I think he'll adjust and by the halfway point of the season may end up as our best player.

I'm guessing something like 10-15 points in his first 30 games, and 35 points in the next 52 games, finishing with somewhere around 50 points (20-30), give or take.

1st line with Goldobin makes sense. He played well near the end of the season. Over a full season without injuries, I expect 15-20 goals from Goldobin, 25-30 from Bo and 30-40 from Boeser.

2nd line: Baer-Pettersson-Eriksson. I would give Eriksson another chance at 2nd line RW spot. Eriksson is (or was) a very good player around the net and I think he will benefit from playing with a player that can shoot as hard and accurate as EP. EP should be able to get the puck to the net in a way that is hard for the goaltender to stop it clean and Eriksson should be able to bang in the rebounds. Baer is a good playmaker but he is a bit of a perimeter player so we need a player like Eriksson to supplement this line.

3rd line: Virtanen-Sutter-Granlund. I would like to see Virtanen on 3LW with Sutter. Over the next few seasons, I would like Virt to become a scoring line player but this season should be earning trust and establish himself as a core player on this team. This season will be about proving to the coaches and the management that he can play an important role on the team and I think he can do that best on this important line that will get lots of tough minutes. With all three guys knowing how to snipe, they should be able to burn the opposition off of the rush. I think JV's skating will really make this line hard to defend off the rush and would not be surprised if he gets around 15 goals or more. Heck, maybe all 3 players will get around 15 goals.

4th line (aka UFA line) seems good. We bought grit through the UFA and they will help the team become more competitive.

Erickson has now been here for two years and even when spending time with the Sedins and on the power play, he was entirely ineffective near the net.  Eleven goals the first year, ten in his second.  Just because he is paid 6 mill a year doesn’t mean he is a six million a year player.  Having Virtanen on the line with Pettersson and Baertsche makes up for Baertsche’s lack of muscle and provides a lot of drive to the net.  Since whatever line Sutter is on will be our number one checking line, and since defence is something that Virtanen is mostly adequate at, putting Erickson and Granlund with Sutter makes defensive sense.  It is also Ericksson’s best deployment since he is now more effective on offence rather than defence.  Granlund is also sound defensively, but he and Sutter both being healthy may help him find his scoring touch.

But NO, EP did not crash the internet lmao. Come on.  Maybe you meant to say some single website or something.

He means Twitter.  Sweden and hockey fans lost their mind during his season and it crashed a bunch of Twitter servers.

I'm thinking

Baer-Horvat-Boeser

Eriksson-Pettersson-Sutter

Roussell-Gaudette-Virtanen

Leipsic-Beagle-Schaller(inj)

Gagner

Goldobin

Granlund

Edler-Stecher

Del Zotto-Tanev

Hutton-Guddy

Pouliot

Markstrom

Nilsson

I think we run with 2 extra forwards until we figure out the logjam or forwards before we risk losing one of goldy or leap.

That way we only somewhat significant players we risk losing are Biega and Gaunce on waivers.

I have never questioned his elite talent but I do have concerns about him being able to maintain body mass through a very demanding travel and playing schedule. The other concern is due to the smaller ice surface here and the added speed and size of the opponents. He had room to maneuver in Sweden that made him hard to contain but here in the smaller sized rinks, while still difficult, for the opposition to target him for hits along the boards he will be more vulnerable. I very much hope he has a stellar season, wins the Calder, and blows everyone away with his pure talent but that remains to be seen, until then, I have some concerns

Size is not his issue or his game. Sutter, Beagle and Bo can match up well. Pettersson won’t be lining up all night vs Getzlaf.

Most larger centers will have a harder time containing a guy like Pettersson IMO as he will require constant attention. Take your eye off him and he will take advantage. The reason players with such high skill do well is that defenders that try to take the body often take themselves out of the play.

Line Pettersson up with a player like Sutter or even Bo and the face off can fall to either player if the opposing center dictates an adjustment.

A PP of Bo Pettersson Boeser would be awesome.

I think he meant that he crashed into the net once, you know, when he broke his hand/wrist or whatever.

EP is going to be great and may win some individual awards ie Calder, but because of the following;

Being a Rookie

Better League

Smaller ice

More games in a season

Slight build (less of a concern but still imo relevant when newly adapting to the above situation)

For these reason I temper my expectations, sit back and will enjoy the EP show and just hope he has what he considers a successful season and stays injury free(knock on wood)

Yes

I think tempering expectations is a good thing

Some here expecting him to be the player he may become after 20 games or sooner

The Sedins are HOF with slight builds too, who took time to develop
