Hodgson has a serious back injury/condition which was a huge factor in his decision to retire early and also prevented him from improving as a player.

 

I doubt this is anything like that, but the fact it went from day-to-day to possibly out for the season does make people wonder

my guess is its a very vunerable spot, something that teams could target. torn muscle, torn ligament, fractured bone,  spinal cord, serious mental imbalance.

 

the list for what it's not is a lot shorter, fractured wrist or collarbone for example.
