If we have that chance when my next deal expires...I don't know. I just wanna play where there's a chance of winning." This is coming even after Benning made all of the changes to the roster - to make them better. To me, it doesn't really sound like he wants to play here, too much work to do I guess. Sounds like he wants a fast track to the Cup, regardless of who he plays for. Maybe with Tampa, Washington or Boston, etc. ? I'm not feeling the love, and it does sound like his heart isn't into it here anymore. A rift with management? Was Edler leaving an issue? Could this be what's delaying a re-signing? From his comment above, it sounds like he may re-sign here for a few years, and then if VAN hasn't won by then, he's gone. You know… Pettersson… things aren’t always Swede. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Reading Pronman’s “pipeline rankings” (Canucks rank #7 in the NHL) over at The Athletic and saw this: https://theathletic.com/2801024/2021/09/02/nhl-pipeline-rankings-no-7-vancouver-canucks-have-bright-future-with-elias-pettersson/ My question is, is Pronman out to lunch on some of these categories, or do I either overrate our players (probably I do) or underrate what league “average” looks like? Is Petey really a “below-average” skater? And are both Petey and Quinn merely “average” in compete level? Are Quinn’s puck skills just “average,” compared to most other NHL players? Seems a little off, to my eyes. I hate being that Canucks fan who takes issue with anything “negative” written about our players, but if I’m comparing these guys to what my idea of league average skills/abilities look like, I’m having a hard time putting either Pettersson or Hughes at “average” or “below average” in any of those categories (other than maybe Petey being an “average” skater). My reaction was the same as yours. Petey skates like the wind and he's one of the most competitive players I've seen on the Canucks. Obviously Hughes has high level puck skills too. Of course I have homer bias, but especially those three ratings are absurd to me.

Glad it’s not just me thinking those ratings were off. I like to think I’m fairly objective (or I try), but I admit I have a pro-Canucks bias, especially when it comes to our players. I just was pretty surprised by Pronman’s takes, because he’s definitely not seeing what I’ve been seeing. Pronman does say later in the article that being rated “average” is supposed to be a good thing: “‘Average’ on this scale means the tool projects as NHL average, which is meant as a positive, not a criticism.” Maybe that’s true if you’re talking about prospects, but when you’re talking Petey and Quinn, actual NHL players who’ve already proven elite (or at least “bubble elite”) at the league level, it’s hard to imagine they’re “average” or “below-average” in too many areas. And certainly not the ones that are being rated, like skating (EP), compete (for both), or puck skills (QH). Just doesn’t fit with what I’ve seen watching pretty much every NHL game these guys have played in their careers to-date (and a bunch of games from their previous leagues and tournaments as well).
SilentSam
The last 2 Covid seasons have not been good for anybody, imagine being an athlete in a team sport. I think the wrist injury to EP will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, imagine having a young race horse that hasn’t primed yet, but when gates up with the best, performs at their level easily. If keeping him away, and in the barn for the last part of the season does anything, it will have made EP bigger, stronger, and faster.. and worth the time away, setting up for a full regular season. He has self motivation and the drive determination, My bet is that his frame has put on lean muscle and he is getting closer to 195 200 lb mark.. Forsberg like. All should disregard searching for deep insight in young players comments.. he wants to be here and win.. bottom line he wants to win. i think he signs a 2 year bridge.. 6m per. Elias Pettersson
5 hours ago, -Vintage Canuck- said: Meh, Pavel Datsyuk is okay. But I'd rather be compared to Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby really... Wayne Gretzky compares Canucks' Elias Pettersson to himself, Sidney Crosby - Sportsnet.ca “From my point of view, he’s got a lot of my similarities,” Gretzky said on Sportsnet 650 Monday morning. “His hockey sense and his playmaking ability is as good as anybody right now, and that’s probably where the comparisons come from — much more the playmaking than anything else.” “A guy like Pettersson plays probably more in line with the way Sidney plays or even the way I played in that he’s gotta utilize his eyes and his hockey sense and rely on his instinct and ability on the ice because he’s not a big guy.”
