The biggest takeaway on the list is Zadina at 200 pounds?  At 6 foot even?

He absolutely flies on the ice and his east west is equally as fast and nimble as his north south.

By age 28 you could easily see him at 225 pounds or more without much of a drop in skating ability.

I think Zadina will fill out well before 28. With the way these guys eat and train they can put on the muscle mass fairly quick. Bo is 23 and is 6ft and he weighs 223. Likely peeked out his playing weight now I would think

I agree with a lot of what you say here

the one point i would argue is Tampas D. actually its not just Tampas D, Its Winnipegs D, its Phillys D Its Bostons D minus Krug, its San Joses D  all the playoff teams at this point have D that are large and in charge. They all have one factor in common, big D that can skate

The Hedman's, Brett Burns & Chara's of the world are more rare than the Karlsson's of the world. Almost?

There is no such beast in this years draft anyway.  Bouchard does not equal Chara. There is no sense drafting him because he is bigger, when he is not a crease clearer anyway?  Draft Bouchard if you believe he handles the puck better, for his laser shot & his instincts with the puck.

But Boston has, as has been pointed out, McAvoy, Krug, but also 5'9'' Grzycyk. The common denominator is they are all good hockey players.  More important than if one is 6'5'' is whether they can skate, shoot, angle off a forward.  Allthough I admit, it is much easier for them to operate because Chara can clear the crease.

We simply need to add to our skill base as we can. Wherever the best opportunity is.

The best part of finishing low is your 2nd round pick being in the 32-35th range where you should get a very good prospect. Guy's like Bokk, Woo, Kravstov, Alexeyev, Miller, Foudy etc

The team might legitimately finish dead last which would guarantee one of Dahlin/Svech/Zadina/Boqvist

Draft lottery can't come soon enough

Dahlin + Miller

would be amazing

Sounds like what we were hyped up on Jake about.

It's interesting he had Bouchard #7 before his offensive explosion. I wonder if he'll have Boqvist lower since he's struggled offensively in the SHL and Allsvenskan.
Looking forward to his year-end rankings.

If the Canucks get 1st overall, will GMJB and Co decide to keep Tanev?

Probably. We could pair Dahlin with Edler, and Juolevi with Tanev, vastly improving our top 4.
I think it's more likely we'd trade Tanev if we picked 2-4 (assuming we finish last), because we could trade down and get the ammo to trade back into the top 10.
There's no way we'd trade the 1st overall pick.

Ok I can see if we want to package up BO or Brock, thats who they will want for a top flight D man. I think trying to trade for top 2 D is not realistic or Edmonton would have had one by now. We have maybe three players they will ask for four if you include Demko.

If you are a team that has a stud D man, what are you going to do once you trade your top 1 or2 D man. Do you have someone to replace him?  And what assestts do we have to trade? Do you want to give up Petterson?

No disrespect Alf, the way i see it is this is the way the Oilers got into trouble. They kept saying we are taking the best player available.... we took Yakupov, the took RNH they kept taking forwards and didn't invest in their blue line thus the one and done year last year because they have no real NHL blue-liners. and it will take 4 years to develop them to be decent. Unless they do as they always do and throw the kid into the lineup at 19 and expect him to become Larry Robinson overnight.

Why would we trade one of our top forwards for something we can draft this year?again no offense but i don't understand that thought?

I respectfully disagree.  To say the Oilers are performing poorly because they always took the BPA is a bit short sighted.  For one Yakupov may not have been the BPA, or RNH (too tired to re-look at that draft year).  Or they could have just been rushed, poor coaching, poor development.  They could have got more value for Hall.  They also could have had a team of scouts that could actually scout beyond the first round.

Ok I am going to try to approach this from a different perspective. I believe there is a definitive link between the size of defense and the success the team has in the NHL.

Out of the top three teams in each division sitting in the playoff spots to day there is not one team that has more than one defense man under 6ft.  Teams like Tampa, Winnipeg Philadelphia have huge D  and one count it one player that plays the under 6 foot skating defenseman game. Coincidence. I don't think so.

Size is important on D and we need to remember this. ,,, Crap Byfuglien goes off at 260 lbs and he doesn't seem to have any issues skating in the NHL.

Size on D is about surviving the punishment the league throws at you  especially in the playoffs. Size does matter when you are being hit in the corners retrieving the puck

Tampa Boston Toronto

Washington , Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

Nashville Winnipeg, Minnesota

Vegas, San Jose, LA

I don't want the Canucks to build a team to make the playoffs I want them to build a team to win the cup.  Also, why even use Washington as an example?  That pretty much disproves your point.

How about we look at teams that have won the cup instead.

Pittsburgh has 2 of their 6 D under 6'0" and Letang at 6'0".

Chicago's 2015 cup winning roster - half their d was under 200lbs.  Being above 6'0" doesn't mean much if you weigh 188lbs, 194lbs, 187lbs, 191lbs, 192lbs or 197lbs like van Riemsdyk, Timonen, Rundblad, Oduya, Keith, or Hjalmarsson did.  Duncan Keith is listed at 192lbs and is a 3 time cup winner.

How many players make up the jets, bolts and flyers D core?  I'm going to give you a hint, it's more than one player.  Why do you think canucks drafting one highly skilled player who's currently under 6'0 is going to determine the outlook of size on our back end, are teams not aloud to have a player 6'0 or under on their roster?

Winnipeg - Morrissey 6'0, Enstrom 5'10

Nashville - Ellis 5'10, Subban 6'0

Philadelphia - Gostisbehere 5'11, Gudas 6'0

Tampa - Stralman 5'11

Washington - Orlov 5'11, Djoos 6'0

Penguins - Letang 6'0

Bruins - McAvoy 6'0, Krug 5'9

No one is saying size doesn't matter,  What people are saying is that the attribute of size can be found anywhere, it doesn't make sense to take the best pick we're going to have since the twins, and focus on one attribute.

This one player isn't going to define our D core, he's simply one player.  The wild have one of the highest scoring D cores in the league.  Dumba is 6'0 and Spurgeon our 5'9.  But the are paired with Suter 6'2 and brodin 6'1. Gudbranson is 6'5, Juolevi is 6'2, Tryamkin is 6'7, Brisebois is 6'3, Brassard is 6'2, We have a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, a 5,6 & 7th round pick.  We have all our picks in 2019.  We can make trades, sign UFA's,  One player doesn't define a D core.

20 hours ago, mikeyman109 said:

Again you miss the point on drafting talent. We do not trade for a top 1-2 D. other teams need them to build around as well.

One player does not define our core but our core should define the D man we need.

Again quoting Dumba is 6 ft shows you didn't read the post as I said under 6 ft. there are lots of the teams I quoted who have players 6 ft 215 lbs. How many have Minny as their pick to win the cup this year?

Gudbranson is a 5-8 on any other team but Vancouver why do you think Florida traded him.He was injury prone there and he is injury prone here.

Tryamkin is not here and there is no reason to believe he will be at this point.

Brisebois, Brassard, Chatfield, etc etc did not get a call up in the NHL this year. Holm got one game and that was it before he was traded. there are no 1-2 D men in Utica at this time. Biega is the answer to the call up always.

Juloevi may be a 1-2 but we haven't seen that yet.

The best pick we are going to have this year. Its going to be more of the same next year until the tire fire of a back end is fixed. And it will take 4 years to develop them. starting now is the smart thing to do. Waiting until you have your future D core in place then trying to make it happen is ala Edmonton

Mikey you completely ignored the brilliant points Forsberg brought up.  He's ADVOCATING for taking the best d man with our pick.  THAT IS THE TOP 1-2D YOU SAY WE CAN'T ACQUIRE VIA TRADE.  Yes that's why you draft the BPA dman regardless of size; because they can't be traded for without giving too much up.

You're pretty much agreeing with him and continue to go off on a tirade about size.  Speed is the new size in todays NHL.  Unless they decide to bring back the clutch and grab game and stop penalising head shots then speed will always trump size.

I spend a lot of time on mock drafts. On draft day I'll have MyNHL mock in front of me.

About 95% of my 'who to draft' opinion is 2nd hand knowledge. I get to see none of these prospects live, and only a handful in televised games. Hi-lite packages should be avoided ( you end up wanting to draft everyone ! )

I enjoy Bobby Mac more than most pundits that we get to hear and see. I really doubt, however, that BMac has seen more than a handful of the players on this list. I think it's the same for most mock drafts. Just look at the long line of talented college players who become available, yet went undrafted. They all copy each other, or roughly use CSA as a guide. I don't know how many junior/ college/ prep or Euro games Bobby sees. Close to zero I'd guess.

This is not an anti BMac attack, just a thought about the value of these mocks. Only Captain Hindsight can truly see all.

PS.....any links to who the analytics folk are praising or putting down would be appreciated.

Boston has McAvoy who is only 6'0, and Krug who's 5'9.  Philly has ghost who's 5'11, Pred's have Subban who's 6'0 and Ellis who's 5'11,  Jets have Morrissey who's 6'0 and Enstrom who's 5'11, Wild have Dumba who's 6'0 and Spurgeon who's 5'9.   Do those teams also have some big D? Yes but that doesn't mean their smaller skilled D aren't valuable pieces to them.  It also doesn't mean we Us taking Boqvist who likely reaches 6'0 at smallest doesn't mean we are a small D core.

Bouchard is the same size of Juolevi, just under 6'2, it's not like he's Chara who's 6'9, it's not like he's Hedman who's 6'6, and it's not like he's Burns 6'5,.  Us drafting a skilled D, doesn't mean we can't also have some other D large and in charge.  You're so focussed on thinking this pick determines what the D core looks like, when in fact it's one piece, one player with potential to be our top 4.

Again you mis -quote me .... I said under  6 feet. All the teams have ONE player under 6 feet. Only One and then they surround them with larger players.

Keep pushing for smurfs on defense. They are not the trend and they are not where the success is.

Doesnt matter to me whether we take Bouchard at this point anymore. I believe he is the best D after Dahlin. Im not arguing this with you anymore. you believe its Boqvist

You consistently mis quote to try to prove your point which I already conceded. Players play under 6 feet I get it. I am just saying the success of those teams depends on having only one of those players in the lineup and adding the size needed to protect them.

Have a nice day I am not responding to you any more on this topic,

Mikey you completely ignored the brilliant points Forsberg brought up.  He's ADVOCATING for taking the best d man with our pick.  THAT IS THE TOP 1-2D YOU SAY WE CAN'T ACQUIRE VIA TRADE.  Yes that's why you draft the BPA dman regardless of size; because they can't be traded for without giving too much up.

You're pretty much agreeing with him and continue to go off on a tirade about size.  Speed is the new size in todays NHL.  Unless they decide to bring back the clutch and grab game and stop penalising head shots then speed will always trump size.

you keep saying Boqvist is the guy , I dont agree, He is too young at this point too small and has not played enough games for me to agree with you. I have a bigger sample size playing the current game on the same size ice putting up better points per game. That's the rub for me . i agree we need the top 1-2 d. we just don't agree on who it is.

I ignore what Forsberg is saying because he constantly mis quotes what i have said to prove his point.

At least if you are going to quote stats post the correct ones.

Bouchard has 86 points in 66 games this year.

Fwiw Mikey, Bouchard is a pretty safe bet to be atleast a second pairing guy and should be able to make the nhl for a long time.
