I feel a tad bit nervous with Svechnikov, I like Zadina, a lot and I think that I agree that Bouchard is the second d-man taken this year.

How can you be nervous with Svech!?! He's an absolute beast haha

Button right gasted your flab.

Button was just on 1040, and said if the Canucks draft 2nd he would take Bouchard, because of the team’s need.  He said the difference between the players between 2 and 5 is not significant enough to worry about picking BPA.  He did say Dhalin is a generational dman.

Still don't see it.

I'd be all for getting another top 10 pick and grabbing Bouchard as well but if Boqvist is still available and we're not picking 1st or 2nd overall...

Does anyone else envision Boqvist like an Enstrom style player just with a better shot? I can't seem to shake thinking of Enstrom when I see Boqvist play.

Ya just listened to that shcoked me..

I am not saying its right or wrong, but the boards here would FREAK passing on Zadina and Svechnikov who will both be in the NHL next year making an impact and will most likley we top line wingers for their careers would defn. spark some anger until bouchard made an impact.

He definitely has a different ranking system than most. Bokk isn't even in his top 90 while most are projecting him to be a late 1st.

He commented on Bokk said he only ranks guys hes seen play i think it was a minimum of four times

Yea not sure how anyone could be nervous a bout a big fast ridiculously talented goal scorer who left russia young, like his older brother destroyed the USHL and almost scored a goal per game in an injury shortened year in OHL.. no worries on him at all.

For those who didn't listen, "Bouchard = Larry Murphy"

Also, Zadina/Tkachuk/Svechnikov "too close to call for me", "3-5 there isn't that big a difference."

Just bizarre cause some scouts have bouchard 5-10 and button as hughes at 12 and lots of scouts have him much higher.

God I just hope we win 1st. Zero Doubts. Zero Worries. We know we get Dahlin easy peasy haha

Button sees Bouchard as an all-situation D. So a guy to quarterback the powerplay, be a stalwart on the defensive end and put up the points at even-strength.

I've seen a lot of scouts question Bouchard's defensive IQ, his skating and his intensity and compete level. His skating isn't bad, but it's just decent. He plays a lot, but he doesn't show enough umph at the beginning of games either, even when he isn't yet tired.

if we end up with the 3rd spot, and Dahlin and Tkachuk are taken, who does Benning take?  Pass up on elite talent in Zadina and Svechnikov and go with Bouchard?  I really like Zadina but it would be hard to pass up on Svechnikov

I would legit riot if Benning passes on BOTH zadina and Svech for fking Bouchard.

I rather have Wahlstrom, Hughes, Boqvist over Bouchard. I am a Bouchard hater at pick #3. But a Bouchard lover if we picked like #10

Good points, just I wonder what he sees and what made him jump up his rankings this month

Because Svech and Zadina are looking like they will both be in the NHL next year

I heard on tsn 1040 when Craig Button came on, that the BU coaches basically told him to focus and stop taking dumb penalties, and focus playing hard between the whistles.  Brady still has a tendency to take undisciplined penalties, but since the WJC - he dominated offensively giving him a much needed confidence boost (as he started the year slow in BU) - thus translated to him playing a far more cerebral and intimidating game.

From what I gather, that new found confidence has allowed him to focus and really hone the skills aspect of his game.

Also - scouts have all said Tkachuk has by far the most complete game that would allow him to have an immediate effect in the NHL.  Mature physical frame, has elite vision (which makes him versatile to play wing or centre), solid work ethic, and his two way game is very refined despite being only 17 years old.   Only knock on him that I read on dobblers hockey prospect website, through the hockey news, and other bits and pieces is his skating.  Its not speed killing like Svechnikov's or Zadina's, but its good enough to make him effective, but adding an extra gear in his step would go a long ways.

Despite he says he tries to emulate his style after Marian Hossa and Wayne Simmonds; stylistically, the kind of game that he reminds me of is Gabe Landeskog but with far more physical bite to his game.

Benning does tend to go off the board with his 1st round picks though and he also does like his draft picks to have past connections with other drafted players ala Pettersson/Dahlen, Gadjovich/Palmu, (possibly)Juolevi/Bouchard.......  don't kill the messenger but it is a worrying trend from Trader Jim

That's not remotely true or accurate.

As for the latter, maybe he'll go with the team SWE connection that Boqvist, Pettersson and Dahlen are all likely to have PDQ ;)
