None of the proposals here will (likely) happen, of course.  However, this is Chia we are talking about.  Who thought the Devils would get a potential Hart winner in Hall for Adam Larsson, or the Stars would get a superstar in Seguin for Loui E.?  That guy has made some head shaker moves, so why not one more?  :towel:

Or Erat for Forsberg...

It was down.

Was forced to use HFboards.

 I was in the same boat. Didn’t know what was happening. All the NHL.com team message boards were down. Was thinking maybe they’d shuttered the whole enchilada and CDC was dead. Had started mentally preparing myself for life on HFBoards. Kinda felt like that Edward Norton character in 25th Hour getting ready for a long prison sentence.

My guess on the BPA (2018) after all is said and done

1. Dahlin

2. Svechnikov

3. Wahlstrom

4. Hughes

5. Zadina

6. Dobson

7. Boqvist

8. Kotkaniemi

9. Farabee

10. Tkachuk

The Zadina drop is bold, but this draft is pretty wide open. I'm excited to see how it pans out.

Something I thought of while watching these playoffs. The name of the game is speed, speed, speed and great goaltending. Vegas doesn't really have a #1D or a star forward, per say. They work and play as a team, running like a well oiled machine. And they're fast, getting to pucks first, making passes quick, all over the opposition. I can see this new Vegas model catching on. It goes to show you don't have to pay anyone $10 million a year to find success. All of the players on the same page and coached extremely well, makes a huge difference. I wonder if this will change how GMs draft players from now on. Players like Tkachuk and Bouchard, for example, aren't fast players, even though they have other attributes. Didn't Dobson just place well in all of the skating tests? Hughes also has great speed. I really wish we could get him.

This is why I like Leipsic, his speed and tenacity (and skill). Horvat has really improved his skating. Virtanen is like the Flash. Goldobin skates pretty well. Gaudette is fast, and tenacious (with some size). Pettersson looks like he can hold his own too.

The thing is.  Vegas players as individuals aren’t really extremely fast. Outside of marchessault there really isn’t not speed demons.  I mean Neal is pretty slow. Sbisa haula, tuch and England aren’t great skaters. Fast is the last thing I’d call reaves. The difference is they play fast and by that I don’t mean skating. Positionally they are sound which allows the to move the puck up quickly and get to places faster.

So while I think speed is a valuable attribute it’s not the be all. I especially wouldn’t cross players off the list just because they aren’t the fastest.

exactly. A fast puck carrier is great but a puck being passed moves faster than any skater can.

This is a really good article on Merkley. It goes over how he has elite offensive offensive tools, particularly his passing and vision. It also highlights his deficiencies, particularly his lack of effort at times and his attitude. Here's a quote from the article from one of his sources regarding Merkley's attitude:

"He's just a sh**head, and I'm his biggest fan."

Stuff like that is a big concern for me. It's one thing to be a pain for the coach to deal with, it's a completely different thing to be a pain for his teammates. Guelph actually scratched him for "disciplinary" reasons when he was their leading scorer. Here's another quote from a source regarding his maturity level:

"Tony (DeAngelo) has the maturity of a 15 year old. Ryan has the maturity of a 12 year old. At least teammates could tolerate (DeAngelo)."

The article also speculates that entitlement could be an issue as the game has come relatively easily to him. He was the 1st overall pick in the OHL draft and has always been one of the better players on his team. Now as the going has gotten a little bit tougher in the OHL, he's responded with complaining and pouting. That kind of stuff is what drops a top-10 talent into the 2nd round.

I would highly recommend reading that article. It has a lot of video examples of both the positive and negative aspects of his game. For me, I had him near the top of my wishlist for our 2nd rounder. This article might drop him a little bit on my personal list.

At this stage of the rebuild just can't see us using a second round pick on Merkley. Too much boom/BUST potential....

For a club that takes pride in players personalities, and that they fit in the group, he is a big NO... Will be hugely surprised if we every see Merkley in a Canucks uniform.

The latest rankings from MyNHLDraft, dated May 28:

1. Dahlin

2. Svechnikov

3. Zadina

4. Hughes

5. Boqvist

6. Wahlstrom

7. Tkachuk

8. Kotkaniemi

9. Veleno

10. Bouchard

11. Dobson

12. Farabee

13. Smith

14. Hayton

15. Wilde

Merkley has been bumped to the 2nd round.

Interesting how Kotkeniemi has risen, and Bouchard and Dobson have dropped a bit.

Think it shows even more how unsure everyone is once they are past the top 2-3....

After Dahlin and Svechnikov has been drafted, and maybe Zadina, nothing is going to come as surprise.

Hence also why JB think some teams may draft positional... as its too had to say, who is the best from 4-12'ish

Out of curiosity, I looked at the 2016 Draft, and how those players did last season:

(points-per-game average last season)

1. Matthews (#1) - 1.02

2. Laine (#2) - 0.85

3. Keller (#7) - 0.79

4. Tkachuk (#6) - 0.72

5. Dubois (#3) - 0.59

6. Sergachev (#9) - 0.51

7. McAvoy (#14) - 0.51

8. Jost (#10) - 0.34

9. Puljujarvi (#4) - 0.31

10. Nylander (#8) - 0.29

11. Chychrun (#16) - 0.28

It's interesting, and I wonder where Juolevi would've been if he played. He was the only Top 10 pick from this Draft who hasn't played in the NHL yet.

True....

However, JV was one of the first in his draft year to see NHL action, and it didn't seem to help him in his development...

It seems its not a question of where they start, but where they finish... or let just hope so...

The story about Norris was funny. I know exactly how he felt. I had the same thing happen to me in off season training where I must have blacked out after running incline sprints on the treadmill. The embarrassing part was waking up to my training partner Heatley laughing at me while handing me an orange juice.

I like that Hughes understands that being responsible defensively is a key to success. Playing with intensity and commitment can go a long way, especially for a smaller player like him. Keith is likely his high end ceiling and I think he's the perfect guy for Hughes to model his game after. He's got the skating, agility, quickness and acceleration to have a similar impact on the game as Kieth.
