2018 NHL Entry Draft

Some in the Montreal boards think they may go for Kotkaniemi as they really want a centre. It could be dangerous for them to trade down a bit and then grab him in case someone else grabs him.

I wonder what the chances could be on Benning making a deal with Montreal. Montreal takes Zadina. Canucks take Kotkaniemi and then trade Kotkaniemi to Montreal for Zadina. Boom...we got a killer LW.

I know this type of thing never happens but it would be interesting if Montreal really wants that centre. Too much time on my hands waiting for the draft lol.

I don't think Zadina will make it to 7

Edit: I'm dumb.

It’s fun wasting time talking of such ideas as yours though:)

I hope the Habs do take the Finn center.  That’s one more top D man left for us, because Zadina would still go before us at 7.

He won't. Montreal takes him at 3...we take Kotkaniemi at 7. Trade Kotka for Zadina (Canucks would need to add).

Montreal gets their centre (I know its unrealistic...but a cool idea lol)

Haha yeah. That's the reason for my edit. I misunderstood your post.

Foudy had a monster combine. He was noticeable in half the tests and won 1/5 of the available tests. He's a pure athlete through and through. Boqvist's performance on the power output tests was impressive and shows some great athletic ability. He'll be more than fine with that kind of ability and a 6'1 frame in the NHL. The big guys in Samuelsson and Bahl got some good scores. Names like Wahlstrom, Tkachuk, Smith, Dobson, Svechnikov, Lundestrom, etc. came up fairly often in the 10-25 range on a lot of the tests. Overall, Foudy really looked good today and Boqvist had a nice day as well.

Gabriel Fortier was also near the top of nearly every test.

There's also the slight chance Carolina could draft Zadina at 2nd because of his chemistry with Necas at the international level.

I see on HF Boards Kotkaniemi is having dinner with 3 teams. Those teams are Montreal, Detroit and Chicago. I’m telling you Kotkaniemi is probably going 3rd which would leave Zadina as the obvious choice at 4th and the slide of the dmen! I’m hoping for Boqvist than Hughes. If both those guys are gone I’ll humbly take Wahlstrom :P.

Interesting.... Has anyone heard who the canucks brass are taking out for dinner or interviewing?

He's got an Alex Edler like presence, also very Edler like stylistically

Yes.

Alex does hit more, and bigger! They both can hammer the puck. Not Al MacInnes, but waaay ahead of most. And I agree on the style! That's where it ends.

Dobson is a touch taller, and has more wingspan. More important, he uses it, covers territory. Is faster, and far more fluid skating. Including with puck & making moves. Routinely better positioning himself to make plays, where Edler does not have junk of any sort, no shake and bake or moves to beat guys. Some miss that Dobson beats guys, because its actually very smooth, not the darting agility of Dahlin. But also fluid moving backwards, smoothly & quickly taking edges to move in different directions. With power to his stride that gets him up ice & to pucks faster. With more time to make decisions.

That speed & mobility, handling the puck & defending is why as good as Edler was? He was not a high pick. And did not get into the upper echelons of D men. Which is in Dobsons upside, and in my opinion is quite likely.

Boqvist was 2nd overall in the mean power output testand 3rd overall in the peak power output test. That's impressive

He's our boy! :frantic:

Those are even higher than Pettersson last year, 3rd and 7th by memory. Which is why he has such power to move wherever he wants & defenders cannot stop him.

That type of athleticism is off the charts when married to his ability to handle the puck, hammer the shot.

FTR I have been preaching the top Windgate athlete with hockey skills all year. And in years past.

Woah!

Look at the meat on the shoulders of such a lean athlete! (I wish Shinkaruk had taken note...)

And nicely represented testing, very fit!  Registered in all jump categories. On mean output power for the Windgate, my opinion the single most important test. Great leg drive. And in all 4 agility tests! Tkachuk also impressed me, but not to this level.

* Tkachuk under 9% body fat composition. A number only seen in his fathers pinky… And in the aerobic duration test, a hard one. Its not the sign of the best athlete? But easily suggests how seriously he takes his training.  Horvat, for a big guy, also scored high on this test for example. And I find it very impressive.

After alot of consideration here's what I got:

1. Dahlin

2. Svechnikov

3. Zadina

4. Dobson

5. Hughes

6. Bouchard

7. Kotkaniemi

8. Tkachuk

9. Boqvist

10. Wahlstrom

I don't think we should pass on one of the defenseman or Kotkaniemi to take Wahlstrom. I'm kinda hoping we can land Dobson at 7, he's got tons of potential.

Doubt we’ll have a chance to take Wahlstrom. 6’1, 205. Kid has NHL size already. Don’t see Dobson being there at our pick either.
