I'm impressed with the kids combine however there are several others I would take before him with that pick. Tychonick, Kaut, Kravtsov, Nordgren not the mention the "why isn't anyone taking Kole Lind scenario where someone drops into our lap.

He might be worth a gamble with a late second though if JB can procure one.

Cool. Would take Bernard-docker before tychonick though. Kid is better all around dman.

I watched Tychonik beat up on my local Vernon Vipers on the regular this year. I haven't watched Bernard-docker  however I do believe Tychonik is going to be a steal of this draft.

He also displayed some outstanding athleticism this weekend. Intensified interest I already had.

THN's take on the combine, including answers to my questions regarding on ice tests, Martin Kaut, etc.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/from-prospect-news-to-testing-changes-what-we-learned-from-the-2018-scouting-combine

Some excerpts;

On Quinn Hughes;

Quinn Hughes, for example, plays at the University of Michigan and was at the NTDP before that, just down the road from Ann Arbor in Plymouth. Given where the Detroit Red Wings are slated to pick, a lot of folks are wondering if the franchise will take Hughes at No. 6. Hughes recently came back from the World Championship, where Detroit bench boss Jeff Blashill was his coach. There was another Red Wing there, too.

“I roomed with Dylan Larkin at the worlds so I got to know him pretty closely,” Hughes said. “He had the same path as me, going to Michigan, so Detroit would be a great spot. I love coach Blashill, he’s awesome. He was unbelievable with me so it would be a great fit, but it’s not up to me. I’ve done everything I can do up until this point and now it’s in their hands.”

On Kaut;

In terms of news, Czech prospect Martin Kaut went home after a physical detected a heart problem that was swiftly dealt with. From the folks I’ve talked to, it won’t affect him going forward, so this is not a David Carle situation. But better safe than sorry.

Did you just start watching the Canucks or do you not remember the way Alex used to play?

Yes wouldn't mind the Edler version prior to his back injury.... I'd consider that a major win.

Boqvist 2nd OA in mean power output, 3rd OA in peak power output, weighing in at 5'11.5 165 lbs while 17 and one of the youngest players in the draft. If you're still against him, I'd be interested in hearing why (not that he'll get to 7 after these results).

I' m not against him.

Here are some facts:

Miro Heiskanen (taken at #3 by the Stars in the 2016/2017 draft): 37 games played in the SM Liga (top league in Finland), 10 assists in his draft year.

Adam Boqvist: 15 games played in the SHL (top league in Sweden), 1 assist in his draft year.

Do you see the difference?

In terms of age both are comparables (Heiskanen: July / Boqvist: August).

Conclusion: Heiskanen's performance and maturity was significantly ahead of Boqvist's performance and maturity in his draft year.

In the last 20 years canucks have drafted a total of 4 D in the 2nd round.   Compare that to the Blackhawks who in the last 20 years have drafted 12 D in the second round.  There's a reason we haven't found any D gems in the second round, we trade our picks away.  And add to that we never had JB as the scouting GM.  But we did find Edler in the 3rd round. Bieska in the 5th round.  JB since being the GM has found Forsling, Tryamkin, and Brisebois

Just a gem of a quote from a few months ago.  For interest sake...

Heskainen was drafted 3rd overall.

We're drafting 7th. There is a difference. Heskainen was more advanced, his skills more polished to be certain. A safer bet. I'd be pressed to pick Boqvist 3rd. Would not.

I still drool over an up tempo game triggered by such an elite puck rushing puck D man. Who is more raw. But so are the tools, the cannon of a shot even Heskainen does not have. The elite power in his skating & agility may be better? While displaying some of the same puck skills, awaiting composure that is within his upside. He would look pretty good to me at 7!

I wish Kravtsov would be there at 37 but he is going 10-15 for sure....  Tychonick and Kaut would be really nice

No kidding. I still remember when he was a rookie. Like Ohlund, he stepped into the NHL already looking like an experienced, effective, mid-twenties top-4 veteran. And also like Ohlund, before injuries (and in Edlers case, bad officiating) derailed his career, he looked like a potential future Norris nominee. So yes, for sure I would be delighted if we drafted an 18-year-old Edler.

Opening old wounds...

Yes that part is very important... The NHL forced Edler to stop playing hard, while other got Cards Blance to hit as rotten as they wanted to.

That together with his sore back turned Edler in to the player he's been the last 6 years.

NHL at is worst.... corrupt...

Adam Boqvist had a rollercoaster ride season in 2016/2017.

He started the season in the Juniors and played 25 games.

Then he was promoted to the SHL team of Brynäs and played 15 games. Once he struggled to become an SHL regular he was loaned to Almtuna, a team in the second tier league in Sweden and played 7 games.

By contrast Heiskanen was a regular top league player in his draft year with 37 games played in Finlands top league.

I think the main difference between your player assessment and mine is that I see the players  draft year performance and you  focus on the potential  of the player.

I fully agree that he has the tools to become an elite D-Man. Concerning from my point of view is that he struggled in the draft year to regularly play on a men's team.

Would not be surprised if the season he had raises some doubts among scouts / GM's. I am very excited to see where he ends up in terms of the selection at the draft.

Martin Kaut sent home with a heart condition. It’s said to be nothing major. Could probably make him fall to our 2nd rounder.

Well that's a wrinkle. If he's still there at 37...

He was horrible in a real league. This guy us Schneider at his best and Marc-Andre Bergeron most likely. Both horrible players.

On Boqvist....I think we get caught up too much on how a 17 year old in Europe plays against men

Maybe I am out to lunch here, but didn't he have an outstanding 2018 - U18

I could be wrong here, but wasn't it 2 goals against the best 17 year olds in Canada ?

Those are his piers..........I kind of lost track of the outcomes.

But did he make the tournament all-star team, which was against his piers?

His combine rankings were again against his piers.......

When comparing Heiskanen to Boqvist, didn't Heiskanen play in another year, and against players who were in a different development year?

I get what everyone is saying but..............he has a lot of positives............I wouldn't just ignore that fact!
