Theres alot more separation then that in this years draft.

I could see some nice looking prospects like K'andre Miller or Alex Alexeyev, maybe even Ryan Merkley fall pick #35 which is where our second round pick should end up.

Wouldn't surprise if those d-men turn into #2/#3.

No trading down never works.  In the first round take BPA, if you want someone else trade an asset and obtain another pick.

We are far, far from a lock at skilled forwards.,  Right now I count one RW in Brock, and a strong possibility of Pettersson.

But there's a long ways to go before we can start being picky about the players we are skipping on the draft

I disagree completely.  If we don’t get some high end home grown D prospects in the system we’ll be stuck trying to acquire one selling from a bloated, expensive forward group.

Most likely with a middle of the pack hopeless teams.

Trying to win with a bunch of wingers wont work either - BPA or no.

Merkleys a wreck in his own zone and is being outperformed by bouchard. I love miller but he atleast needs two years in college plus a year in the ahl since he has trouble making defensive reads. As for alexyeev, he doesnt have the upside of a bouchard, smith or dobson.

And Bouchard needs to show more in the defensive zone, show more intensity shift to shift and lacks dynamic skating needed in today's NHL.

I do like Dobson but not more than the elite forwards.

Ty Smith is just completely meh for me. Decent at everything but not great at anything. Prefer the 3 d-men I listed over him who have more upside IMO

PPQB

Merkley, Addinson, Tychonick, Smith, Hughes, Sandin, Boqvist

Two way

Wilde, Woo, McIsaac, Wilde, Dobson, Bouchard, Alexeyev

Defensive/Size

Miller, Bahl, Samuelsson

Sandin and Woo are 2 other d-men that I really like that are being undervalued and could slip into the second.

Thats your choice. Too me, if van is in the top five, they're going to have to figure out if boqvist or dobson are better then the fowards listed in the top five.

Yup, it going to be interesting.

Here's to winning the Dahlin sweepstakes though so we can all sleep well at night.

There's only one locked high end prospect and he's projected to go first overall.    So unless we win the lotto you pick BPA.

You'd have to be pretty sold on your scouting prowess to turn down a low risk, high potential forward to trade down and draft a D that is considerably higher risk.  Add in the fact that you don't know if the player you have your eye on will still be on the board.  No thanks, pass

It depends on what’s on the table for a potential trade down.  In a draft chalk full of D I’d be listening.

That said, I’d be happy with just taking Boqvist.

If we win the 2nd or 3rd is where it gets interesting.  Obviously if you keep the pick you have to go Svech-Tkachuk but I really think then a move needs to be made to acquire some D help.

Got zadina ranked higher atm. His skating is just better

I hate evoking the Oilers but too many forwards without D is perilous and leads to Hall-for-Larson like trades to try and make up ground.

Not many idiot GMs trade away Sergachev-level defencemen for skilled forwards.

I know. I actually am hoping for boqvist man. To me he's the number two guy in this draft.

Yeah I haven’t really looked into it much yet... sounds like Svetch is a clear cut #2 but I’ll take Boqvist any day we don’t get Dahlin.

40+ years later we’re due for a #1 though...

We will never be like the oilers, i've already pointed this out, but there problem wasn't just the forwards they picked in the first round it's that in a 6 year span they only landed 1 fulltime NHL player outside the first round.  A player that they traded before he even laced up a game with the oilers..  Had the oilers been someone reasonable at drafting outside the first round, they wouldn't be near the joke they are today.

In order in in 1st overall or top 10

Dahlin

Tkachuk

Zadina

Bouchard

If 10-15

Veleno

Dobson

Kotkaniemi

if 15-20

Kupari

Merkley

What we REALLY need is a couple of secondary picks.  One in the first 14-25 and one in the 2nd 37-45

We could possibly see one or both but who knows.

I want all the prospects

Its close between svech, boqvist, and zadina for number two. It will depend the teams that get into the top five.
