Screw the knobs on the radio I don't think a deal would happen until after July 1 (if at all) when we can get contract certainty on him. By then, the draft lotto and draft are already over. We win the lotto, no deal, we draft Dahlin. We end up with a 2-4'ish pick we look at working out a deal with that pick as the main piece. No Juolevi. Albeit inflation will also have an effect. If EK is getting paid $11m or $12m the next few years but it declines steadily in the last 2-3 years giving you an AAV of $8.5-$9.5, I don't think he's complaining that the AAV is too low, he'd still be one of the 'highest paid D'. Besides I doubt anyone's outdoing Weber's $14m for a while yet given it was signed pre-lockout and before current contract limits. Inflation and CAP is expected to go up along with Karlsson shall have a pretty competitive market as he’s been one of the best if not the best defender in the league for some time now. I see him like you said getting paid somewhere around that 12m next year with decline on the salary over years but his average to be the highest at 10 mill on the cap per year. Probably not far off 10, no.

Blömqvist
Would rather trade for Ekman-Larsson than Karlsson at this point. Karlsson's ankle and the west coast travel and play style being the main reasons.

Both are free agents after next season so I’d really prefer not trading any assets for somebody that could walk so shortly. However I agree and would also like to target OEL in the 2019 free agency for the fact he’s had less injuries and should cost about 2-3 million less per year. Nave
Regarding Karlsson, I'd give him the money. However, I would want to pair him with Juolevi, so if they want Juolevi and a lottery pick that would give me pause. Karlsson on our powerplay would be amazing though. We haven't had scoring from the backend for awhile, and he has gamebreaking talent. He's only 27 too... it's not like he's over 30 and out of his prime. Nucksfansince91
If we’re projected to get a Dman in this years draft than why trade for Karlson? Juolevi and 1st round Dman is a solid direction for the rebuild. Trading away our assets for someone who wants roughly 11-12million onto a Rebuild team is kind of silly. FYI - I live in Ottawa. His foot is not 100%, he still hesitates with lateral movement And it’s very noticeable(they literally had to take a peice of bone out) With saying that...he is still the fastest player and most obviously the best player on the ice 99% of the game. Brobidus
Ryan Merkley was drafted 1st overall in the OHL draft in 2016. And damn he sure does have skill, but he almost seems like a forward.

The athletic article's main point was that one of those wingers (Zadina, Svechnikov, Tkachuck) would be a better, more valuable piece than anything Colorado got in the Duchene trade. And hence the main piece of the trade.
R.Dahlin26
Take out Edler, insert Rasmus Dahlin onto Powerplay.

Steven Stamkos
Barring winning the lottery I hope we have an opportunity at Bouchard. I remember watching him at the U17’s and he was the best dman in the tournament. He’s having an unreal season and deserves to be jumping up the rankings. Both look like surefire top line wingers and Juolevi will most likely be a top 4 D with #2 potential. Karlsson is gonna eat cap space, karlsson health is in question and last playoffs could have been the peak of his career with his best days possibly behind him. plus with our D injury luck and our travel schedule and western conference play day in and out it could not be a good scenario for Karlssons ankle injury. obviously it would be exciting getting a top dman like karlsson but if it's a top 3 pick, Juolevi and + something more probably I will not be that optimistic about it being best for the teams long term future. And I'll be annoyed because we wouldn't be getting younger and building through the draft like they say they are doing. if it was a 6th or later pick + juolevi for karlsson extended and passing a physical then I'd go for it. It’s really the difference of Juolevi + one of Boqvist or Bouchard + about 10 million in cap space. I’d probably rather have the cost controllable assets and the cap space. Heck with that cap space you could just wait one more year and get Karlsson on the market without losing Juolevi and the 6th overall pick.
BI3KSALLENT
What does everyone here think about Juolevi"s old D-partner Evan Bouchard? He's a very cerebral d-man, really smooth skater, very nice offensive skillset, but very good in all 3 zones of the ice. He's a great size at 6'2 192lbs already, and also the Captain of London. Currently he has 18-45-63pts in 48 OHL games leading all defensemen in the O with points. I think he has top pairing upside, and would take him at 3-7 range. Not sure how his skating is or how effective he uses his body or is in his own end.
