(Speculation) Van had deal with VGK to trade down

Just read that Canucks had a deal with VGK to exchnage the 5th OA for 6th and a 2nd rounder.

McPhee pulled out of the deal last second as he believed Glass to still be available at 6.

Not sure how McPhee found out who we were drafting but wencould have had a 3rd 2nd round pick.

For all we know McPhee was just trolling any GM who would listen for more free picks - good on JB for not going for it.  The NHL already gifted them a reasonable team,  no need for us to help them any further.

So, somehow McPhee knew for a fact the Canucks were not picking Glass?

Well...maybe now we know why there's a sudden "retooling" of the scouts

*slips on tinfoil hat*

it was a bit odd to see them all at the draft table... surely they heard the rumors. Musta been awkward for some.

Usually in these trade up 1 spot moves its because another team is calling with a can't pass up offer for Glass, thereby forcing McPhees hand. I doubt it had anything to do with Benning's preference as GMGM probably knew Benning wanted to trade down as he didn't want Glass...

The bottom line - LV didn't see the gap between the potential players at 5 and 6 to be worth a 2nd round pick.

They were ok with possibility of Vancouver taking Glass - willing to take the risk.

They gambled.  They possibly bluffed.  Who knows - they may have actually wanted Pettersson.  They're Las Vegas after all.

Or perhaps they spied on who the Sedins were having dinner with.   Glass-gate.

Maybe Botchford was lurking, sold the info to SN motormouth Cosentino.  Cat out of the bag.

If only that idiot Benning had instructed the franchise, including Pettersson, to wear their invisible suits, they'd have an extra 2nd round pick right now.

Whatever.

Vancouver got their guy.  End of story.

During an Interview with NBC after Vegas selection, Mcphee said He talked to Benning about moving up but he knew Glass would still be available so declined. My guess is Benning told him at the last minute. (as I remember at a"behind the scene" at the draft a few years ago Benning telling some one on the phone who he's taking). Classic nice guy Benning. Sounds like he had Elias picked along.

Just creative media-trolling. Didn't happen..forgetaboutit.

Just because you don't want something to be true doesn't mean that it isn't.  Between Benning putting his foot in his mouth in the past and the scouts who know that they are losing their jobs soon, it's very possible that McPhee caught wind of who Benning was planning to take.

Maybe Benning did talk to other GMs about trading down, as folks here were suggesting that he should. Maybe McPhee got a hint of that from discussions with one of those other GMs, who Benning had talked to about trading down. This could have given McPhee the idea that Glass was not on the Canucks' radar.

Or, you can just believe that Benning somehow blew it, because it's simpler that way.

Who knows who cares I just hope Petersson beats down LVK for all eternity

I care if it really did happen.  JB's strength is supposed to be in young talent evaluation.  A third bite at the apple in the second round would have been sweet.  The Canucks can certainly use and need every pick they can get their paws on.
