A lot of fans seem frustrated with the fact that our prospects struggle in Utica.

To me it shows that the AHL is a really high level of hockey. There is no cheating in the AHL like some prospects might have been able to get away with in the CHL. Players are faster, stronger, and more skilled than what they are used to in Jr. The living arrangement is new and different for them. Team travel is different. For the most part they enter the AHL boys and don't get to advance to the NHL until they are pro's who can play a man's game at the highest level. To think this will be a walk in the park for most of our new prospects is unrealistic thinking on our parts. I see it as a good thing that the league is so difficult. That it has ex. NHL players in it who are competing to get back in the big show. The competition is real, most don't make it, its a sink or swim situation and only the best move forward. It challenges your mental strength and your will. Your window is short and there are a lot of nasty players who will attempt to injure you. When you reach a point where you can thrive in this environment your ready to be an impact player for the NHL club. I think Kole Lind will get there. He has the right attitude about being honest with what he needs to improve on combined with his athleticism, compete, and edginess I think its the recipe for a quality NHL hockey player.

Only the best will pass through Utica. We also have another good prospect in Zack MacEwen who looks like he will have a good NHL career! Good things take time. The future is bright in Vancouver. Go Canucks Go!

Because we would be so upset if we had a president's cup winning team that had 62 wins in the regular season. Their downfall was because they likely got too cocky and complacent near the end of the season while Columbus had been playing playoff hockey for a month to battle their way in. I believe the point was that we should be in a winning environment meaning the team should strive to want to win and that's what builds character and a stronger overall team mentality rather than simply being demoralized every year in hopes to land a top pick that may or may not even change your fortunes (see Edmonton, Buffalo and maybe even NJ).

If you're going to choose one extreme, then perhaps you'd prefer if we went the Ottawa route? Fun times there. If anything, this Tampa experience just goes to show that even if you get destroyed all year by a top end team, once you make the playoffs, it's a new season. It will be far better now at this point to have our guys get to that point and push themselves to take it to another level of the playoffs (and learn from it even if you lose). This is how you progress and develop as a team, plus you won't be withering away at the talent we currently have.

Well, it's true that when you are always losing, you don't need to worry about what it's like moving up to the next level. But some of us don't want our players to become accustomed to being perennial losers.

So you’re are okay with Utica winning and Kole not being a key cog in the machine and letting his talents sit there in a DEVELOPMENT League? Or would you rather he be a key piece turning the team into the winning team maybe having to go through some hardships before that all comes?

Or are you ok with Utica breading us all these fringe NHL players?

The point is that a winning team can create complacency just as much as a losing team.

Ideally a team that competes every game is the goal. Every game should be considered one that can be lost or won no matter the opponent or situation.

Hey you make your own luck in life. You can only control what you do. You can't control outside influences ie play your game as hard as you can every shift. It's up to Lind to make sure he gives his all every shift and GGM's and scouts will understand that. The chips fall where they will. It's called being a pro, some get it some don't

I get that, was mainly responding because he was correlating Utica with the Oilers....

It was a joke, but if you want me to get into well if you're talking about adversity, forcing the young player to beat out guys ahead of them is also the type of adversity that can drive a player to better themselves. Doing this in a winning environment means you are beating out good competition and also contributing to the environment. If you cannot surpass the guys ahead of you on a weaker team, then you have a lot to work on. Kole Lind played in 51 games out of 76 which is plenty of opportunity to make your mark as a 19 year old. Unfortunately he put up 17 points in those 51 games to not garner him more playing time, but he looked to have improved near the end of the season. He now knows what he needs to work on and he seems to be indicating he needs improvement in exactly what people are seeing.

Lol if he was good enough to be a key cog on the team he would be, but he’s not even close. Gifting players icetime doesn’t make them better

Bottom line is that 2nd round picks and lower have huge odds against them making the NHL. Lind and Gadjovich were high 2nd rounders so hopefully with time in the AHL they will make the Canucks. I expect great seasons from both next year.

I'd rather see prospects earn their ice time and develop that attitude than being gifted a roster spot and ice time

Kole will get there.  He needs to play his game.  And his game is about speed and power.  It just takes a little longer.  Not unlike how Gads will and JV is taking a little longer.  When Kole is fast and strong enough he will be the Kole Lind of the Rockets on the Comets.

Absolutely, no "seems" about it. Some people have the delusion that if they whine about the team they will appear to be clever, no matter how ludicrous their complaint is.

An old saying suggests  " don't count your chickens before they're hatched" There's an element of fans who prefer to be cheerleaders. Have you ever heard JB state Lind will "make it" not likely because he knows quotes like that comeback and bite you. IMO the best way to review prospects is with a strong grasp of reality, no dreaming
