Boyd hasn't even played a single game for us lol. I also doubt we play 3 rookies next year. Just not greens style.

Man we need to start playing these rookies tho. They are cheap and too good for the AHL now.

Rumor is Beagle is out long term, possibly into next year.

I heard that too but then heard he would be back when we started up again. So who knows

No way does Gadj make the team out of camp next season. He will probably get a few call ups but spend most of the time with Utica.

Gadj, Rathbone, and Brisebois (if we re-sign edler) will be our initial call ups for next season. Lind MIGHT make the team, depending on Beagle’s status and if we let Sutter walk or not.

If we extend Sutter, and don't protect him, I could see Seattle grabbing him.  Exactly the type of veteran they need, can play up and down the line as well as wing, just exudes leadership.

Foundational, you could say

LOL 3 rookies. If you include Juolevi, all 4 guys will have a grand total of less than 25 games in between them. Not going to happen

if Edler wants to be back, he'll be back.  They're not walking away from him if he wants to be there

Great, we’ll have a job at def coach soon. But please not as a player there is no room for an old, ultra slow, goal screening and shinpad aiming guy.

kidding’

i don’t want Edler back even as coach. Time to move on

Why not tho?

look at our bottom six this year. They didnt do much. Gadj and lind were drafted in 2017 and its been enough time for them to develop. Both playing amazing in the AHL and feel like both can make the team. Not like theyre 18 anymore. We dont really have money for UFAs  and besides do we want benning to go sign bottom 6 UFAs? Lmao

i say we go with them, i think they are ready and we sprinkle a lil podz on top into the top 6 thats what im talking about.

I’d argue that our top 6 was a bigger issue.

Elias’ lines were getting dominated for most of the season.

Miller missing the first chunk and not himself, Petterson playing iffy, Hughes was a mess and Virtanen and Gaudette's already iffy/sporadic play fell off a cliff, particularly offensively.

Our 'overpaid' bottom 6 was far, FAR from our problem. They, along with Boeser and  Horvat were about the only things that were actually working initially.

Schmidt is much better on his right side tho and that's why I think Edler get re-signed because we have nobody to fill those minutes, ideally that would be Quinn but not sure if him and made Nate are a good match and not sure Hamonic is good enough for prime shut down minutes.

He's still the best option and is by far are best pker.

Him and Nate have some of the best metrics in the league while playing the toughest minutes.

Ya he's struggled offensively but the last 3 seasons before this he has been trending up to over 40 over 82 games. I didn't expect that to continue and I find it hard to believe that after 3 straight seasons of being around a 40 plus guy he's just dropped off. Doesn't really matter about points we are one of the highest scoring D in the league we need him for everything else he brings

Depends how much he wants, well at least it would if it was anybody besides Benning - he never saw an old fart he didn’t want to drown in money.

Exactly, but it keeps getting parroted by everyone that has an axe to grind with Jim Benning as it's the easiest argument against what he's done.

I mean yes the 'bottom 6' was a problem but more so because both Gaudette and Virtanen looked absolutely lost our there and then we ran in to injuries.

Absolutely.  If Virtanen and Gaudette were even half the players they were last year, our bottom 6 would have been fine, and we would be sitting in a much better spot in the standings than we are right now.

I think the ideal line up either next year or year after would be

Podkolzin/hoglander -petterson - boeser

Podkolzin/Hoglander - Horvat - lind / pearson / gadjovich

Pearson/lind/gadjovich- Miller - Pearson/Lind/Gadjovich

Motte - Sutter/Beagle/Highmore -Virtanen/Macewen/Vesey

Jett Woo - Quinn Hughes

Tyler Myers - Olli Juolevi

Nikita tryamkin - jack rathbone

Demko

Dipietro

Guess this would probably be in at least a couple years and not quite next year. But that has huge potential with centre depth of petterson horvat Miller and wingers for all 3 centers. (Hopefully lind and gadjovich turn out well, I think lind could make a complimentary winger for horvat maybe and pearson fills in sometimes. This would give miller Pearson and gadjovich as his wingers. (Miller would still play on the first unit powerplay)

Also that depth on D has huge potential as well
