Thought he showed some real promise. Seemed to understand better than any defenceman in a decade to get the angles right on pucks towards net and walking on the d line. Also looked fine and showed poise on D. Wait until he gets a few games under his belt and some more confidence. Kids going to be a beaut.

Best turn it up Ollie there's a new kid in town

Left side next year Hughes Olli Jack and probably Eddie back?

Right side Hamonic Myers Schmidt.

Is that good enough?  I'm thinking no.  We need to pick someone up this summer who can play next year and be an improvement.

Glad to see Jack getting a shot.  He is going to be good I think.  But short term we still have some improving to do on D.

Neither Juolevi and Rathbone are ready to eat up 20 minutes a game. I'd say that defence is not good enough. We should upgrade on Hamonic if there is any money to do so.

Hughes-Upgrade

Edler-Schmidt

Juolevi-Myers

Rathbone-Depth RHD

Over the course of the season, give OJ and Rathbone more minutes and less minutes to Edler.

Maybe by the mid season, Juolevi and Rathbone can eat up Edler's minutes.

We could also ice 7Ds. Sometimes have Hughes ice as a winger.

I hope we keep hamonic and upgrade on Eddy . Love what he's done for this team, but he cant play those minutes effectively anymore. I think we can find a suitable defensive defenceman  for around the 2 mil mark and then defend as a committee. Juolevi and or jack will get it nailed down within half of next seasons  games. With better results.

If he comes back on a 1 year deal for 1 mill or less, I think we consider that and play him in a 6-7 spot, rest him lots and use him as a PK specialist.

I doubt you will get him for that amount but perhaps 2 and a half on one year deals going forward. He still has value and other teams might be able to offer him more. I guess the question is how badly does he want to retire as a Canuck and how much of a cut in pay and term is he willing to agree to? Either way; If he is retained, he should be seeing reduced minutes as the season goes by and the rookies get their footings.

Playing Rathbone was critical to see what options will present considering Edler and Hamonic. I can’t see signing both unless Edler gives the team a real deal. You have to figure Hamonic will want term and that might be a deal breaker. I think we can safely say Edler will not be on a 2023-24 team. If Hamonic might be JB could look at a 3 year deal. Neither should get a NMC.

Was Rathbone a pleasure to watch. The kid has serious skill. He finishes the last 8 games strong and he might never see the AHL again. Wow!

A lot of negative stuff on JB lately but no one can question his drafting. Prospects has him listed at 5'10" and 177 pounds. I wonder how accurate that is as I remember seeing a 5'11'  AND 190 pounds. He certainly does not play like he is 177 pounds. Unlike Stech who got beaten fairly regularly I think Rathbone has only hit the ice once while battling. Nice speed too.

Didn't he drop because of family concerns.........younger brother, wasn't it?.

IMO, I think he could have been a 2nd if there were not any concerns

Again, IMO, he will turn out to be a 2/3

love his game!

Edmonton's a fairly offensive team, and I did not notice any glaring mistakes, did you?
