....and Boudreau had Hunt while he was with the Wild. So, he knows what his game is.

Coach B said Hunt goes all out every shift. Gives it his all 110 percent every shift. Which doesn't bode well for Rathbone imo

is Hunt to Boudreau, what Chiasson was to Green?

The worst thing for Rathbone is that he is hurt during this period of evaluation. Rathbone is a superior talent to Hunt in every way except NHL experience. In addition, his NHL experience was under Green where the hockey philosophy was to collapse into his own zone and do the equivalent to soccer’s ‘jamming the box’. That approach is inimical to the style played by Hughes, Myers, Ekman-Larsson, and... Rathbone.

When Boudreau finally gets to see a healthy Rathbone, I have the feeling that he’s going to love him. Rathbone’s instincts are directly in line with a Boudreau’s game philosophy, which is to pressure all over the ice - a strategy that forces turnovers due to taking away time and space.

was Bone's injury disclosed to what it was? He has missed a decent amount of time, luckily with cancelled games it hasn't been a ton of games he has missed. I hope he plays for a month or 2 in Abbotsford before we POTENTIALLY call him up this season, which we probably should do so Boudreau can see him at the NHL level as Bone will need waivers next fall.

Don't want to see another OJ situation where he doesn't get much chance to play before needing waivers leading to a claim or trade of Mr. Bone

Nice adjustment there by Rathbone, getting down in his skates to receive the pass closer to his body.

Was just going to say notice he drops to one knee for the finish. Very unorthodox goal for a damn and quite a bold style choice to attempt.

You rarely see d men use that shooting technique. It is typically reserved for forwards on the power play getting the cross seam pass for the one tee.

Again Rathbone shows an advanced offensive awareness.

They need to call this guy up as soon as he gets his fitness back. Maybe after a couple more weeks in the minors or sooner if there is another injury or another guy in Covid protocol he gets a fresh start under Boudreau.

This young man has the skills to become a special player, hopefully he gets the opportunity.

Quinn Hughes sophomore college year points:

2016-17 Youngstown Phantoms USHL 4 0 1 1 0 1
2018-19 Harvard University ECAC 33 7 15 22 8 13
2019-20 Harvard University ECAC 28 7 24 31 16 0

Quite comparable, though Rathbone was a year older, having spent an extra year at home to be with his brother. Is he another Hughes? No. Different balance of skills. After a poor +/- in his rookie campaign, Hughes really went to work on his defensive game with great success. But Hughes did get the chance to develop his offensive game in his first season and the team suffered through his defensive difficulties. But with Rathbone, Green was fighting to keep his career, and Rathbone did not get the same foregiveness of rookie mistakes that Hughes did. Hopefully, under a Boudreau, Rathbone will get that chance.

Rathbone’s style is much like what Boudreau coaches. He plays a pressurizing defence, anticipating plays to wingers in the neutral zone, and moving up to make solid contact on the attacking wingers. Green’s strategy was for the D to back off and surrender the neutral zone and the blue line. Boudreau likes to challenge through the neutral zone and at the blue line.

Many years ago, the Canucks had another young D, much less skilled than Rathbone, but about the same size, that made similar aggressive defensive plays - Evgeny (John) Namestnikov.
