I'm not expecting Woo to compete for a spot until at least his D+4 year, even then only as an injury call up. Will probably spend all of his waiver exemption time in AHL & having to fight his way into line-up on his 1st year of waiver eligibility.

Very interested to see how he develops. Judging by what im reading it looks like hes their best defenseman or at least behind Adam Fox.

Also love his backstory and the rather odd route he chose to start his career because of it.

Behind Adam Fox. At least offensively anyway Fox has 7 points in 2 games. I’m happy to see our guy rewarded for his great play early and promoted to the top pairing almost immediately. Rathbone has a great story and really makes it easy for fans to like him and route for his success.

I wouldn't expect him to supplant Fox as the top d-man, of course.  But being on the top pairing of an excellent school, with a rich history of producing quality NHLers, and by all accounts aquitting himself quite well in his freshmen year, is fantastic.

Rathbone was solid in this one. You think Hughes is the only elite skater in our system? Rathbone's there to say hello.

Very impressed with his skating and his passing. Did have a bit of gaffe's in his own zone and does need a little more refined work on the defensive end, but his transitions and puck skills were extremely evident.

Rathbone also possesses a real heavy and accurate shot. Hammered one from the point to open the scoring, got an assist by getting a shot through, and got an extra helper.

Overall played a solid game.

Rathbone currently leading all NCAA freshman defensemen in points/game (2.0), goals/game (0.67), assists/game (1.33), and shots on goal/game (4.0).

His 6 points (2G 4A) puts him third in scoring among NCAA freshman defensemen. The two guys ahead of him have played 5 and 7 more games, respectively.

Graphically, and included sophomores as he was a 2017 pick:

Jack Rathbone is two games into his Harvard career. (Gil Talbot; Harvard Athletic Communications)

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Having started the season with consecutive losses to ECAC foes Dartmouth and Quinnipiac, there's plenty of room for growth in a Harvard team that features freshmen on three of its four forward lines.

The Crimson have more experience in back, led by two-time All-American Adam Fox, but that youthful presence still rings true on the blue line. Look no further than West Roxbury, Mass., native Jack Rathbone, a freshman head coach Ted Donato (Boston, Mass.) has entrusted with big minutes from the get-go.

The Vancouver Canucks’ fourth-round selection in 2017, Rathbone has found early success alongside Fox and junior John Marino (North Easton, Mass.), registering three points. He scored his first collegiate goal in Friday’s 5-3 setback to the undefeated Bobcats.

This of course before he doubled his output in the next game.

Why isn’t Adam Fox in the NHL yet?

At the time when Fox and Calgary’s management had to make that decision there was no guarantee he’d make the NHL roster. Calgary’s defence is pretty good so he likely chose another year of college over AHL time.
