I'm more shocked that the usual band of merry dumbasses that troll this board haven't complained that he was out fishing instead of training.

Well, I'll be the head dumb**s.  Fishing is clearly not good for hockey players.

I remember seeing that photo of Howe a few years back...what a legend no wonder he lasted so long in the league!

If this is what fishing can do for a hockey player's muscles, then I'm all for Palmu fishing.  (I think Howe was likely a farm boy). Did you see the Bobby Hull picture, where he's pitching hay on the farm?  Bo is a farm boy, and he's super strong.

Ya he's going after some large catch with that rod lol. Halibut can be a large task to bring up! Or sturgeon! For sure, good ol' farm boys have good work ethic and are usually pretty darn fit. I remember having to pitch fork all the loose hay in my grandpa's field back in the day into a hay truck (glad I don't have to do that task anymore tho, it would get so hot out in the field!!)... i've never been fitter in my life. All my family farms mine and my wifes side, love working on the farm. I don't need a gym lol.

I grew up on a farm, and Mrs. Alf and I had our own farm too.  We both loved the farming years too.  There was always lots to do; never bored.

I wonder if Palmu is a farm boy?  He's sure a stocky, and likely strong, looking guy.

Then that makes you the exception.

I don't know anyone who hasn't got a fine or a ticket for something when they were younger. If the worst thing I did when I was that age was take a couple fish out of a pond illegally I think my parents would be happy.

Regardless we don't even know the level to which he was involved, so to start making assumption about his character is pretty premature.

You seem to be missing the point.

What if he was shooting bald eagles?

what about silver back gorillas?

Do you get it?   The kid was poaching.

Fishing a protected species.

Just because fish don't have eyebrows doesn't mean they don't matter.

He was knowingly fishing illegally.

That screams bad judgement to me.

At 20 years old, you better know that can't be happening, or your gonna end up a $&!#ty person.

I kinda think of him as a fitness freak, gym guy. He doesn't scream farm boy to me...but who knows lol!? Where was your farm Alfie?

All my family is from the Dawson Creek area, I basically grew up on my uncles farm. He has 1100 acres of freedom on the Peace River. But then I have other aunt's and uncles, and grandparents that owned land around the area as well...always chores to be done! My wife's family owns a 20 acre orchard in Metchosin outside of Victoria (beautiful in the summer, I pick fruit each year out there and sell it at the stand).

Hmmmm.... young kids do stupid things indeed, but that doesn't justify the 'it's just a fish' response from a number of posters.  That kind of attitude is the reason our politicians don't give a rip about working towards a sustainable Fish and Wildlife strategy in this province.  For anyone paying attention, this is a pretty big issue in beautiful BC.

Does that make him a $&@tty person?  I doubt this guy ever makes the NHL anyway.

Yes.

Yes it does.

What would you think of a guy shooting eagles?

Same diff man.

And I agree, I doubt he will make it to the NHL.  Doesn't give him a free pass to go poaching.

Wife is a farm (ranch) girl from Southern .Alberta.  My family's farm was here, in the Fraser Valley.  We are retired now, but had a farm in the .Columbia Valley, up near Cultus lake.  Know the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Chetwynd, Hudson Hope are pretty well.  When the wife and I bought our farm, we looked in Metchosin too.  Beautiful area, no doubt.  Lived the city life, house in town, during the week, and went to the farm on weekends, holidays, and such.  Had caretakers to help out.  Ended up spending almost all our time on the farm anyway.  Now we're old, and live in a friggin' condo:(  only good thing about that is I can toss things off the balcony and hit people on the sidewalks below.  Kept a couple cattle prods too.  Keep one charged up, and it rides shotgun on my scooter.  If buggers on the sidewalk slow me down, I whack 'em good.

My father grew up in Sardis, so know that area well. Used to go to Cultus Lake as a kid and rent the cottages there back in the 80's. It's a bit crowded now tho! Beethoven's pizza is a fond memory as a kid growing up. As for the rest Alf, that is just golden! I'll be aware of anyone fuzzy riding around a scooter down in the mainland next time I visit...I don't want to get a whack lol! Cheers bud

He says it was catch and release (ie: he did NOT kill them.) And he apologized. This is not remotely the same as killing an eagle or a gorilla. I don't see how any reasonable person could claim that it is.
