And I agree, I doubt he will make it to the NHL. Doesn't give him a free pass to go poaching. Relax a little bit on this lol he apologized. He's young, we have all done worst. If he does something he is not supposed to do, then the law will take it from there. All I care about from my perspective is- can he play, is he a good teammate that will be positive for the franchise. It was $&!#ty, yes. They will do what they do with him. It is a loser move.

Nuxfanabroad
Yeah..we did stuff decades back, that you wouldn't do now. Can't be angry at the kid(having done this myself), but interesting how attitudes have changed.
alfstonker
The hypocrisy is palpable. Guys like Bo and Boeser who were younger when we drafted them have done nothing but make their folks, their coaches, the Club and their fans proud of them. "Real character boys" many have said. Now we get the "bad boys" (in their dreams) trying to look cool playing down an act that was illegal the first time he did it but by the second or third time shows, at the age of 20, a degree of stupidity and a clear disrespect for the underlying reasons for conservation. 20 is no child in my book. The crime is bad enough (let's face it this is not just poaching) but the fact he seems unable to learn a lesson or appreciate the reasons for conservation shows character weakness and seems worse, imo He has been given second chances and STILL did not seem to understand that what he had done was illegal and punishable under the law. Most kids would see they were cut a break and learn their lesson after the first time, never mind a 20 year old. It seems only now after probably someone "painting him a picture" he has written a public apology. Let's hope that is the end of it now and he realises he is not Warhippy or Nuxfanabroad where nobody probably cared what they got up to but a boy with a possible big future ahead of him in the NHL, a future where many people have given their time love and effort to help him reach his goal.

WeneedLumme
I have a question for the posters who keep ragging on the kid. Are you really not able to distinguish the difference between "catch and release" and actually killing something? From all the ranting, it seems that you are not. It's rather a big difference to ignore.

This is not remotely the same as killing an eagle or a gorilla. I don't see how any reasonable person could claim that it is. It's the attitude towards the resource. May be hard to understand but in the fishing and hunting community fish and wildlife are borderline sacred for most of us. I'm not ragging on Palmu, I'm saying we need to care more about fish and wildlife in general. Edit: this isn't dissimilar to the guy who rode the moose in northern BC. Looks cool until you realize that kind of stress can lead to the animals death not long after. Something like 30+% of catch and release fish die after release and when you throw that into purposefully fishing for a species that it a already dwindling...... it's a respect issue. Hairy Kneel
This is something I would accept an apology for. Not raping or child or spousal abuse or pitbulls.
Attila Umbrus
And meanwhile in Nashville people are throwing catfish on the ice, Detroit used to throw an octopus onto the ice. The disrespect to animals around the world is an issue, Palmu isn't the only one. He even admitted he caught and released the fish. It still doesn't make it right especially since it's a protected species. I still like the kid, he's learning real hard probably for his first time tho, that now you are an NHL teams prospect, especially one with a rabid fan base. You better watch what you do, or we'll friggin hang ya kid...lol. I think he'll learn his lesson, issuing an apology via news report is embarrassing enough. Lets let the kid live n' learn.
Derp...
What's done is done. Our job is to help people who have law breaking issues recover. I say we should just give him a river where he can fish and go from there. Time to forgive our pint sized prospect for a small offenese.
Popular Post SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Very much agree that Palmu should be forgiven. And I'm not sure what more people could expect from him? He got caught. Got raked over the coals in the Finnish press. Actually got arrested. Paid fines. Issued a public apology. That's punishment enough IMO. More than most people have to face for their youthful indiscretions. Also, as much as I don't condone his actions and agree they displayed very poor judgment and immaturity, there are mitigating factors. First off, from what I can gather, the fish is caught only became restricted in southern and central Finland in 2015. Previously it was legal. And it's only restricted in the regions where stocks are threatened. You can still catch them in Lapland IIRC. And that species is doing just fine in many other countries. It's even been successful farmed in some markets. It is not an endangered species worldwide. But the wild stocks are definitely under pressure in areas like where Palmu fished. Also, when it comes to these issues of criminality and Palmu's character, his age is definitely a factor. Just read the neuroscience around late adolescence (18-25) and how long it takes before the pre-frontal cortex is fully developed. Kids Palmu's age (and yes I consider them kids) are often neurologically incapable of good judgment, proper decision making, and fully appreciating the consequences of their actions. This doesn't mean young adults deserve a "get out of jail free" card. Just that the mistakes young people make shouldn't define them for the rest of their lives. I'm confident Palmu will learn from this. If for no other reason than he's suffered quite a lot of public embarrassment and has been forced to face consequences. He's still young and likely has more mistakes to make before his reaches full adulthood. But I'd imagine his illegal fishing days are over. And I wouldn't be surprised if, after al this, he actually became a bit of a public face and advocate for environmental protection and biodiversity. I still think he's a good kid. He deserves a chance to prove that this mistake won't define him. And I'm inclined to forgive him and move on.

We are still at odds it seems with all the idiots on here who don't think he did much wrong in the first place. We had all the same BS with Kassian defenders and then Virtanen defenders. Fans who disrespect this Club by taking sides with players who are clearly out of line. Apparently some "kids" can get married, father children and fight for their country at 18 but if you pull on a hockey jersey you have to be treated like you are still in the 3rd grade. Rollieo Del Fuego
I caught a Spring the other day, after loosing a big one...the legal minimum size is 62 Cm which is about 24.5 inches ...I couldn't tell if it was legal in the water so we netted it, it turned out to be hooked through the gills and bleeding badly as we were trying to get a tape measure on it....this went on for while because it was borderline....now if a fish is bleeding from the gills it is done anyway so we stopped fiddling with the tape measure and put the fish out it's misery ....when we got home it turned out to be barely 24"... ....don't tell anyone else...I feel so dirty....
