OTT/VAN summer deal(Proposal)

Recommended Posts

Enjoyed cheering on Ottawa this spring - suggest we help them again. GM Dorion gave us great value for our buddy Burrows, so I wouldn't mind a deal that helps them next yr, & gives us more futures...

Van: Edler(retain 1 mill AAV)

Granlund..1 more yr, very cheap 900k

2018 3rd R pick

OTT sends:

Harpur ..6' 6'' D-man. Only 22. Seems stay-at-home, & fairly solid.

Filip Chlapik ..Czech C, 2015 2nd rounder. Plays in Charlottetown with our D, Brisebois. Good jr stats, 2017 PO's it appears. 200 lb kid

2018 1st round(condition: if Ottawa finishes 22nd or lower, shift to 2019 1st, BUT cancel our 3rd r pick as well)

- After this, our LH-D would be rather brutal(but size, at least!). So we sign a cheap FA D-man in July. We'd retain 2.3 mill(Lu, Badger & Eddie) next yr..wouldn't kill us. Right now Ottawa needs the space more than we do.

- Karlsson's contract ends in 2 yrs, same as Edler. The timeline fits really well for Ottawa, contractually-speaking. Eddie at 4 mill, nicely replaces Methot.

- I'd say Ott might be the best chance for Edler to accept a trade. Connections with EK & Burr. Their team has nice momentum going right now.

I like the idea of helping Ottawa if we can. That is, if Edler can help their playoff push. Also if they can afford to trade Harper and Chaplik. Not sure if I want to send Granlund. (I don't think anyone trades their firsts anymore).

OTT has no 2nd rounder in 2018 so HIGHLY  unlikely they'd want to give up their 1st as well.

The guys they're now looking to get rid of,  we don't want - MacArthur, Ryan, PanHoof....

Ottawa is actually an older team the way they're structured right now - they're in a grey area it seems,  not good enough imo to go into 'win now' mode and not young/skilled enough to be a force in 2-3 years.

There have been 7 trades for first round picks in the last week alone

On Chlapik, they got White & Logan Brown(two 1st rounders) knocking the door at C position.

Young D? Ceci, Claessen & a few kids including the impressive Chabot.

If we lost Granny & Edler:

Baertschi..  Bo ..  Eriksson

Rodin/Boucher..  Henrik.. Goldobin

Daniel..  Sutter..  Boeser/Virt

Gaunce, Chappy, Dorsett, Molino, Megna

(3 or 4 of these fwds head to Utica)

Painful D:

Hutton - Tanev

Harpur - Gudbranson

FA signing - Stecher

Pedan - Biega

(this D basically assures lotto-finish; but we could have 3 bruisers dressed for bigger rivals)

I think that's only because some teams are trying to protect some of their players.

There is some truth to that. Last year had 3 first traded. Also 2 trades including swaps of first rounders and one trade that was a conditional second that became a first (Eaves)

Well not with us. Seems we get 2nd rounders only Lol

Definitely some truth to this as well. Benning's been pretty good with later rounds though so I don't really mind

I'd go for an Edler for Harper straight up deal.

Or Brown, Chabot or White.  What Ottawa really needs is more goals, adding Granlund would help keep them interested....

The addition of Gagne would seem to afford us someone like Granny as long as JB is willing to part with him.

Sens: Edler

Nucks: Phaneuf, Chlapik and 2018 1st

Rather than losing Granny, maybe taking on a bad contract would get us a good prospect and a 1st

This way our D wouldn't look so bad lol

Plus I am pro trade Edler now since he snubbed Boesy numerous times at the end of the year.  He can try snub Ottawa's kids lol

That's interesting, OF. I was considering a similar suggestion(involving Pha9), but why would he waive?(seems the obvious question)

If he & Edler would agree, would be great.

Interesting twist: both teams retain 1 mill on each contract. In yr 3 & 4(Phaneuf has two extra yrs), it might be a PITA, that 7 mill-hit. Ottawa always leaves space anyways.
