[Rumour] Nail Yakupov has interest signing with Canucks

The difference between Baer and Granny to Yakapov is that the former players weren't really given fair shots while the latter has been given multiple shots with multiple teams. The former have also proven they can learn from their mistakes.

The issue with Yak is that he has more issues than just skating; it's also how he processes the game, which is arguably the hardest thing to teach someone. And he wants to score and seemingly do not much else, and today's game demands more than that from players.

Granted, there is no risk to losing assets to signing him, but there is risk to signing him nonetheless. There is risk to creating a distraction towards the team, him taking a spot over someone else, his attitude potentially affecting/infecting other players, etc. This should not be ignored.

And, although I agree that Horvat showed skating can be improved, the number of examples of players who couldn't improve their skating like Horvat is abundant.

Sure, let's stick to the office analogy... true story: My wife is right now being offered multiple jobs with a handful of offices. She is deciding between which office is the best fit for her because she has the luxury of doing so. She has said no to one in particular because the place is outdated and not taken care of, which says a lot about the place and how the owner takes care of their company and where their values are at. She is going to instead accept a position with the place that has new equipment and a good attitude and culture towards customer and employee care. The moral of the story is you don't have to accept a job just because it's available and it used to be the best company around when it opened; especially when there are better places to work.

So you're going to pick the safe $15 an hour office job over a potentially risky $25 an hour office job with benefits? You're just repeating your talking points on the rest of it. We're going to have to agree to disagree here.

Oh, he's certainly had his fair shot.  Let's face it - the Oilers were banking on him to be a first line player when drafted, and he had full opportunity to make a splash there.

I think it is highly unlikely he will find a way to be relevant in this league, but I still think he has enough skill to warrant yet another chance on a low-cost, 1-year contract.

How in the world is it a fair opportunity while being in Edmonton. The graveyard of 1st rounders? They don't know how to utilize their players to allow them to succeed, that is why it's taken them so long to get where they are and without Mcjesus they'd still be a bottom 10 team. Bring Yakupov home!

Why the F not?  There is zero risk here.  We have a basement team.  If he ends up finding the talent that made him the #1 pick, well then we have a top 6 winger for nothing.  If he is brutal, then we play whom we were going to play anyways.

With where the franchise is at, this is exactly the type of bad bet we should be making.

I've actually offered more to my points each time but you just don't address any of them and instead say that it's worth a shot and there's no risk. I agree that we should just agree to disagree.

That argument would be valid, except for the fact that they developed McDavid and Leon just fine.  Yak got shots to play on their top line and blew it. I'm not saying they did everything right in his development, but at some point he has to take responsibility for his lack of success.  And in my opinion, I think it is clear he has some good skill so it is either his inability to think the game, or unwillingness to work hard.  Either way, he had better find what is missing immediately because his window to being considered a relevant player is almost closed.

While I agree he is skilled, he cannot play defense and I hope for his sake he starts to understand that or his career will be a short one.

He is going to have a very long career if he opts to bolt back to the KHL. That's exactly the league he can flourish. Not that tough physical play like in North Armerica. Would be a great option for him to pursue an opportunity in the KHL.

Very true.   If he wants to stay in NHL he should watch how Canucks Sven Bae changed his game for Calgary to Vancouver and stopped being a permimeter player.

isn't that like saying Trevor Linden and Jake Virtanen got the same chances?

Draisaaitl and McD were not coached the same as Yak, who had 4 coaches in 4 years with the Oilers, while Draisaitl was sent back to Jr even though it counted as a year of ELC, and McD was coached by and experienced NHL coach.

Wille D does not equal Pat Quinn

Kurger/Eakins/Neilson don't equal Todd McLellan

In their best years in the NHL, I'd take Quinn, McLellan, ( a really big gap) Kruger, Neilson, Wille, Eakins

DIdn't bother wading through all 24 pages, but I'm a bit surprised to see so many people against taking a flyer on a former #1 overall. I see very little risk in such a move and while it's true that he failed in two markets already, it's not unheard of for a player to find his way when given one last shot.

I'd bet a lot of people in Edmonton were saying similar things about Kassian when the oil brought him aboard....

So far I like what the 'Nucks have done, but I'm disappointed on losing out on Weal. Yak might have mitigated that disappointment somewhat.

Anyone watch Global News tonight?  Apparently Benning was on and put to rest any interest in Yakupov, saying they already have Goldobin and want to see what he can do.

Yeah I saw that too, he isn't going after him he made that clear last night, and tbh was a little surprised, but if he's asking for too much I totally understand then.
