[Rumour] Nail Yakupov has interest signing with Canucks

Sure, the hard fore checking RW in the Burr/Hansen mould. It would be great if thats Jake, otherwise who do we have that could really be that? Certainly not Yakupov, unless he really commits to trying to play in a way he hasn't before.

I think Virtanen is a great fit in due course, but Granny is serviceable in the meantime - he doesn't fit the cookie cutter of what would be ideal, but he's so adaptable and intelligent - they looked good together last year and really at this point there's no real urgency to find the perfect fit for the Sedins.

How great would it be both for us and for Yak if he couldlive up to the expectations of a #1 overall pick and rub it in Edmonton's face multiple times a year for the next 5+ years?

Conclusion: Please sign.

I don't agree with folks who say nothing to lose by singing Yak. He's soft and known as lazy defensively. We have a limit to how many guys we can sign. He would eat into that limit. Besides, we have our quota of soft players. This team needs toughness. More meat and potatoes please. If a team with Baertschi, Goldobin, Hutton, Stecher, Tanev, etc ever make it to the post-season, a guy like Yakupov would just make us that much softer. A great name for Scrabble points maybe but I'd pass on signing him.

Good thing is this time period isn't about making the playoffs. It's about taking as many flyers on draft picks and young players as we can in order to find future stars.

The odds may be low with Yakupov, but there's absolutely nothing that should be stopping us on taking short term risks on players like this. Especially if the player actually wants to play here.

If we're giving chances to guys like Boucher and potentially Weal, Yakupov is worth a chance too.

If Yakupov was happy with a 1M deal then I'd sign him. Looks like JB is going to ink him or Weal, but Yak has to be happy with a two-way contract because Utica could really use the help. Give the other 4-6M to Kulikov or Alzner or Franson.

Grigorenko wasn't qualified either who would be another low risk high reward signing. Not bad on the 4th line anyway.

I'd just go with Yakupov and Alzner/Kulikov for now:

Sedin - Sedin - Granlund

Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser

Goldobin - Sutter - Yakupov

Boucher - Gaunce - Dorsett/Labate

Dahlen

Edler - Tanev

Alzner - Stecher

Hutton - Gudbranson

Biega

Pedan

Subban

Those wingers will probably shift around a lot over the season but Yakupov can start in our bottom-6, he can play gritty if he's visible, and if he strikes gold, he can play in our top-6, even with the Sedins. I expect to see Dahlen impress and end up with the twins full time but there's still a spot there for Yakupov.

You forgot Loui Eriksson, unless your assumption is that he would be traded. Not sure if there are many teams that would be interested in his contract.

If benning can get him at 2yrs @ 1.65 per season, would be fair contract for for both sides. I think he's worth a shot especially if he grew up a canucks fan and Bure was his favourite player.

Is Yak a UFA, or would we have to trade with St. Louis?

UFA - he was not qualified.

STL didn't qualify him so he becomes a UFA.

Thanks.  I always felt Yakupov tried his hardest, both being fit, and on the ice.  I would love for us to give him a chance.  I do think it's hard to have him and Goldobin.
