Maybe. But I think he has some stones trying to make an NHL career and exhausting his opportunities instead of just going the KHL route as many Russians do right away.

That's true.  He's still trying to make a career in the NHLinstead of bolting to Russia.

I think we can all see what's really going on here.  You'd have to be blind not to see it this whole time.

Yakupov's child hood hero growing up was national icon Pavel Bure.  His favorite city in NA was always Vancouver.  Knowing he got stuck in deadmonton and having no way to get out besides wait it out he basically played like he had no clue, didn't care.  He got traded to St Louis and his only option from there was to play so casually that he wouldn't get renwed.

Now he is a 23 year old UFA and his first choice is Vancouver.  Vancouver, his first choice since childhood.  He will come here and surpass 60 goals in his first season and get in to a scrap with McDavid in our 2nd game against Edmonton where he will break his nose and jaw and dislocate his shoulder putting him out for the season thus cementing his legacy in vancouver and going on to be the canuck's most prolific goal scorer in team history with 549 goals by the time he retires with 3 cups to his name in the city by the sea

I'd love to see Yakupov on a 1 yr. contract. Let's see if the kid has chemistry with Goldobin. Maybe even split the Sedins up for a balanced roster.

Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser

Yakupov - Sedin - Goldobin

Sedin - Sutter - Eriksson

Granlund - Gaunce - Virtanen

I don't mind the Canucks taking a flyer on Yakupov.  Might be more worth it to sign him to a PTO as already suggested, just so the Canucks don't eat up a contract spot.

Yak and Hitch never seemed like a good combination.  I don't think Yak will be the top 6 guy that he was drafted to be but you never know - how many times have scouts been that wrong about a 1st overall pick?

At minimum, Yak will help the Canucks get faster in a rebuilding year.  If Yak gets a PTO, he might be able to beat out a bubble guy like Boucher.

That's umm... some type of sarcasm.

He's UFA.  Maybe a fresh start on a young team might kick-start his career.  It seems like a low-risk move.

Is there anyone better placed than Greene to turn this young man's career around?

1st OA for free, 23 yrs old, highly offensive especially on the PP.

And pray those bad habits don't rub off on our other young players. I can't see JB having any interest in Yakupov.

True.... or else we would've acquired E. Kane by now.... can't imagine a team with a bunch of bad boys! On front page every week for the wrong reasons....
