Screw him

Exactly.  Who is this guy anyway?  We have Gaunce and Cassels to fight it out for fourth line centre.  How about we just use our own guys and forget about crap left over scraps from other teams?

Left over scraps from other teams are likely better than ours. Otherwise we would not have been the 2nd worst team in the league.

Would Weal make us a contender?  Of course not.  So just go with our own guys.  Stay crappy.  Draft high.  Draft well. And develop our own.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Weal apparently waited until after visiting Vancouver (Wednesday) before deciding to re-sign with Philly. That suggests that his choice was probably between Vancouver and Philly and that he did not really like what he heard when he visited Vancouver. Or at least he did not like it enough.

He would have been a good guy to sign. Others have noted the similarity of his track record to Linden Vey. It is similar, but better, and Vey was close to being a valuable player -- but he is the kind of guy who has to be top 6 or else he is not very valuable, and he was not quite good enough for the top 6. Weal has a better shot at being a legitimate top 6 and he is also more valuable in the bottom 6.

So I am disappointed in not signing him. I liked him because he was young enough (just turned 25) to be part of a rebuild (i.e. still good 3 or 4 years down the road). I am not that enthusiastic about signing guys over 27 and certainly not over 30 as they are not likely to contribute to the rebuild unless they can be traded for picks or prospects at the deadline.
