my uncle invited me to go with him to visit Cuba in july and since I know that the WW3 almost started there during the missile crisis and I like these military historical events I decided go with him.

1 week there and pretty much Brazilians are very welcomed there...

any tips about the glorious socialist paradise?

thanks in advance

EDIT: yes I will look for Tupac there and I will use sun protector. if I´m used with the weather in the amazon the Cuban weather will not be worse...

Get some photos of the old 40's - beginning of the 60's cars there and post them on CDC when you get back.  Plenty of people would love to see those old-timey cars and trucks.

Also keep a tight hold on your cell phone.

Hey Aero! Long time no post... (either that, or I somehow missed it) Good to have you back!

Never been to Cuba, but my youngest went there for her Grad trip last summer. Her advice: Stay away from the "resorts", (food sucked) but the "real" Cuba was awesome. Have a blast!

This contradicts everyone I personally know who's been lucky enough to go.

Ditto. The only negative my daughter had was the food and that was because the resort staff thought a bunch of 18 yr old Canadians would want to eat nothing but what they saw as "Canadian" food.....

I never got that personally.  Why the hell would I want to eat the exact same thing I can at home when I've paid good money to travel?  Plus real Cuban food looks delicious.  I'd even pay extra to stay in an all-inclusive where they actually served the local cuisine, not dumbed down for foreigners.

Might sound like a weird suggestion, but go to the Christopher Columbus cemetery in Havana.  Fascinating place with large mausoleums, a ton of statues and crypts.

Ron Bacardi is buried there.

Old Havana is pretty cool too -  grand stone architecture that hasn't been cared for since the 1950's.

It was one of those S-Trip things. We paid a certain amount into every month, then a lump sum for the balance at the end of the school year. They didn't really have much choice about the food they served at the resort, but they had a blast otherwise.

Wear a maple leaf so your not confused with an American, they love Canadians down there because we didn't embargo them like our southern neighbors. Barter for everything you buy, do not pull out lots of money anywhere it will get you robbed, always keep your stuff hidden and remember that saying anything against the ruling Castro regime can land you in jail. The Cubans are a very polite and awesome people, poor but mostly content, treat them with respect and you will get taken care of. I love Cuba and never didn't feel safe, unlike almost all of South America.

Oh oh and as others have said please find Tupac, we need him to come back and save rap, it's gone to hell since he left.

Had about four nights in Havana.  Loved it.  Great food, music in tiny bars, super cheap rum.

hired a driver with a '53 Ford convertible for a great driving tour.  Walked around at night no problems (some police presence however).  Can't remember the name but I went to a locals nightclub right on the water and had so much fun white guy dancing to Cuban music.
