Added you almost have to know that either come current players on the roster or those we just signed are getting moved before March's TDL and benning...actually looks smart.

Bingo. He's basically spending money to potentially get draft picks. I don't get how anyone would be upset over that, but the usual suspects are of course up in arms.

Love this signing a lot!! Gagner will no doubt help out the PP and offer a great option to the Horvat or Sutter line.

I'm just hoping JB will turn his attention to size and grit now. We now have so many small offensive players like Rodin, Boucher, Granlund, Goldobin and now Gagner... we gotta make room for either Virtanen or Labate or another big tough UFA.

Just gonna leave this here. Doesn't matter if he won or lost but the fact he sticks up for himself is encouraging. That is some of the character I hope our young players grasp onto. You don't need a bunch of goons you need team toughness where even the skill players don't back down. I never realized he played with this much fire in his belly. The more I collect data the more I love this signing.

Heres another where he steps in for a downed teammate. Certainly cant call Gagner soft and the fact he can be a 50pt guy is exciting. I truly believe a coach like Green will get the best out of him.

A consistently 40-50pts player who is entering this prime... signed for $3.15 million/year?  If that's not a bargain, what it?

Depending on who he is playing with, it's not unforeseeable he can be close to PPG.

Baertschi-Horvat-Gagner <--- legit 1st line / high-end 2nd line

uhhhhhh I dont know about that..

Good pick up, "PP Specialists" and our PP was among the worst in the league. We win at least 7 more games next year with a PP that scores 18 more goals than it did last year.

Between him, MDZ and Nowel Brown  our power play should be much improved.

I think @JoesRooster point was this part here. Gagner is never going to be a PPG player.

When I first saw this signing I liked it the least out of the 5, but after doing some research I'm coming around. I think we have a very versatile and smart veteran on our hands.

If nothing else it gives Green plenty of looks and options for our forward deployment. If Boeser doesn't impress (which I think he will) I like the idea of a Baer Horvat Gagner line.

I like the Gagner signing.

Baer-Horvat-Gagner could potentially be a very strong line:

- Baer and Gagner are both wizards with the puck and Horvat's mitts are pretty soft as well

- Gagner adds RH shot to the line

- Nobody on that line is afraid to go to the dirty areas

- All three are smart in the offensive zone

- Other team's D pairings focus on this line which relieves pressure off the Sedins

Additionally, we finally get someone who can make goalies look silly in the shootout.

Gagner's not exactly durable either so I guess if you're any one of the prospects waiting to play in the top six, that's good news.

Fluke player? Other than that one bad year in Philly he has consistently put up solid 2nd line numbers year over year. In his career he averages 48 points per 82 games. His last 3 year contract he earned 4.8 per year, and that was as an RFA I believe.

General rule of thumb I use for forwards in free agency is you want to get 15 points per million. Gagner is a solid signing.

Plus he is coming into his prime and we have him for those years...better signing than the LE 6x6

In order to do this, the Sedins need to be on the bench watching the PP.

He has a point though.  Columbus made a huge jump this year, but often we see a young developing team with good talent but struggling suddenly "get it" part-way through the season and maybe even have a decent playoff.  The next year they really come together and take off.  Calgary in 2015 and Florida in 2016 appeared to be on the verge of that but then fell back a bit.

Also, Colorado...however, their goaltending let them down along with some bad trades and moves

Gagner doesn't bring anything to our pp in a skill set that we don't already have.

We we need to understand the context as to why our pp sucks. It's not because we are missing a puck controlled playmaker. We already have a roster filled with those types. Our pp sucks because we are missing a #1 d that can play on the pp.

people see gagners pp points and just assume that can be added to Canucks advtange. But what people don't see is that gagner was a huge benifactor of playing with a team that had jones and werenski on their pp units.

In my opinion he's not going to have much of an effect at all on our pp %. He doesn't bring anything different to the unit that the sedins don't do.  We needed a finisher. Not another set up man. I think the biggest factor to improving our pp % is the use of Brock's right hand shot. If we can get him to set up like vbrata, that is where we might see an increase.
