Adarsh Sant
Now if Draisaitl comes in at 9 mil the Oilers are done. That would be 27.5 mill for 3 guys.
Shekky
at 12.5m thats going to handcuff the team in the long run. Just look at the Blackhawks.
nuckin_futz
If we can pay $6M/yr for 6 years of Louie Eriksson, is this really out of line?

Warhippy
That's actually less than anyone thought it was going to be. Everyone assumed 13.5 to 14 Draisatl will be an 8.25 and then it's the lucic/RNH/Sekera and Russel contract overpayments that will hamper them. Chia Pet is going to need to get shrewd or die a slow death
EternalCanuckFan
Good that they lock him up for awhile but yikes. McDavid, Draisaitl and Lucic will easily cost them $25M+ for the next 5 years. That's more than 25% of their cap space for those two. It's not terrible as most of their D core (except for Nurse, not sure if I would include Benning) is locked up for at least the next 3 years. The Oilers will probably have to move out RNH this season however. They have quite a few RFAs next year including Nurse and Caggiula. Maroon is a UFA next year too, though perhaps they'll let him go. Don't think there will be too many teams willing to pony up for RNH's contract so he might be affordable. Not saying the Canucks should acquire him though. McBackup
12.5m is actually pretty fair. Especially considering he has to spend the next 8 years in Edmonton. Gotta like that tax rate I guess.

Most people think the cap will remain at around 75mil for awhile and may even go down. They don't see any new revenue coming in the pipeline. nickels
Would of loved to see McDavid become an RFA next year... Think the offer sheets would have eclipsed this deal (so did Chiardelli)

It will just make it harder for mcdavid to win a cup with a contract this big.
Fanuck
LOL, is this McJesus' version of taking a discount so the team has financial flexibility? Is this the beginning of the end of a possible modern-era dynasty that never was?
