canuckmen84
To VAN City - Ryan Murray To CBJ - Erik Gudbranson - Markus Granlund - We may need to add a pick IMO I have been hearing Ryan Murray is expendable now that Zach Werenski, Seth Jones and David Savard have cemented themselves ahead of him in the lineup. With Jack Johnson unlikely to leave anytime soon, either, Murray would be a logical trade piece in any trade with the Jackets. Why the Jackets might do this trade you ask.... * Gudbranson would be a welcomed addition to their blue line providing physicality and leadership that goes a long ways in the playoffs. * Granlund would help fill one the holes in their lineup created by UFA's signing elsewhere (IE: Vancouver) he also would be a solid guy they can play on the PK and score some goals. Granlund also comes with a cheap cap hit which may be desirable for the Jackets. The Jackets number one need is a 1st line Center and i do believe they were in the running for Duchene and still may be but the word is the price is too high for the Jackets and they believe Wennberg is trending to first line material, they also have PLD that may crack their lineup next season. That being said maybe Murray could be snagged while addressing some of their secondary needs they have. It would be a huge upgrade acquiring Murray, this trade would also allow us to draft another forward with our top 5 pick next year With Edler and Del Zotto gone in the future our D could look something like: Murray-Tanev Joulevi-Stecher Hutton-Tryamkin / many options.. Hortankin
No thank you. Just because they gave us a 2nd for free doesn't mean we have to do them any special favors Juolevi Gudbranson Tryamkin Stecher Hutton ?

Not enough to give up a future #2 and a 20G scorer We have enough D prospects to kind of stand pat with our young guys. Right now Edler and Tanev need to be shopped. Don't have to be dealt right now but shopped around until a fair deal comes our way. Gudbranson and Granlund are a big part of our future core

Blue Jay 22
As for the OP, I think Ryan Murray would be a good target and would bolster our D core as well. For this particular proposal though, I'm not sure we are much better at the end of it as the difference between Gudbranson and Murray isn't a lot at the moment, and I don't think the gap between them is granlund, especially since we lack quality goal scorers currently. I would try to convince Columbus to take Gudbranson with a pick and/or prospect or 2 rather than including Granlund.

Gudbranson and Granlund are a big part of our future core The fact is at this moment Murray is a top 4 and Gudbranson is a top 6 , Murray is 23 and Gudbranson is 25 ....Murray has more upside and is better now. I would love it if Gudbranson turned into a top 2 d man but i just don't see it. There is also the risk Guddy jumps ship at the end of this year as a UFA... If he's not signed by the TDL him and his contract would garnish a HUGE bidding war with cup contending team. And I mean a HUGE bidding war So if he doesn't sign, oh well, it's a win win Pit, Nyr, Wsh, Tor, Ott, Mtl, Nsh, Chi, Sjs, Ana, Edm, Dal They would all be in on it

CBJ would not do a trade unless they were getting something to help them now so a pick and degrading their defense would not fly with them . But a Degrade in defense while acquiring a offensive-defensive forward could garner interest. Instead of Granlund who could we package for Murray? 48MPHSlapShot
Yeah, no. Giving up the only truculent Dman we have, a 24 year old 20 goal scorer just starting to scrape the tip of his offensive game, AND a pick? I don't think so.

Go watch the 2015-2016 Panthers and then come back to me on that 1 Gudbranson's possession stats were atrocious that year. There's a reason Florida was willing to move on from him. I was happy to see him go after Martin for running Stecher but the league is moving away from stay at home defensemen like him. Tanev's great because of his shot suppression ability and his first pass that allows the team to transition out of the zone Gudbranson has some leadership qualities and can lay opponents out with a big hit or drop the mitts if necessary. They are important for a team but not required in a teams top 4 and not something a team would give up a lot for
