Him and Pedan.

Clearly Holm's going down. Pedan probably clears...Evan is 50/50 IMO. Then we've got OJ pushing for a spot, Wiercioch... sure seems like a trade (or two) needs to happen.

If we send him down during preseason, I'm sure he'll clear . There are a bunch of McEneny type players that other teams have

Those are strong words.

I watched a lot of Comets games last year.  He's good, real good.  Its certainly possible that he doesn't reach his ceiling, but if last season is any indication, he is going to be an excellent NHL'er sometime soon.

Great to have him locked up again. He was quite a surprise and got the trust of Green last year with Utica and played in all situations on the PP, PK, 5v5.. Really solid defenceman you can depend on. Excited to see what he does as an encore next season for Utica!

Aside from OJ, he's the club's best d prospect, Hutton and Stetcher included. I see him as a solid top 4 dman in 3-4 years.  Watching him play for Utica, last season, was a highlight of last season.

I'm impressed with McEneny.

I think when we call him our 2knd best prospect, you also have to factor that he's 23. And still just arriving. Stecher had similar points in the NHL, to McE in the AHL. It does'not compute.

I'm going Brisbois. Because Hutton and Stecher have also, really, graduated past prospect stage.

I like him too, but it's a big step from being good in the AHL (finally this past season) to better than two players currently in the NHL playing decent minutes.

Good to see McEneny retained for depth.  I didn't watch Comets games so not sure whether he is a legit option for a 7th or 8th D.  Could see him being selected over Holm, Pedan and Subban but not sure about Biega or Wiercioch.  Unless there are injuries or trades, would expect him to start in Utica.

The depth on the left side of D is very high.  I'm really not clear what Benning's plan was here since he added 3 players for 2 spots that you could argue that he already had Pedan and McEneny for.  I think it's obvious that Juolevi making the team wasn't even considered.  Then he showed up to prospects camp  20 lbs heavier than last year and Benning said himself then, that size was the main thing keeping him from the NHL.

Edler

Hutton

del Zotto

Holm

Wiercoich

Pedan

McEneny

Juolevi

The right side is a different story.

Tanev

Gudbranson

Stecher

Biega

Subban

Not so sure about that.  They've certainly kept tabs on his progress, and have brought his name up at times in interviews as potential for next year.  Like Holm, they probably figure he is "near ready" but aren't going to stake a roster spot on it thus they brought in established NHL players.

I don't care about dmen points......not primarily anyway.

I didn't say he was playing better than them now, but I think his ceiling is higher at the NHL level

For those that don't know much about McEneny, you may find this article of interest.

Some of the more interesting parts of the article include:

Evan McEneny came to the Canucks in a rather unusual manner. Having blown out his ACL in his draft season, he played just two games in 2011-12. Prior to the season, he was considered to be a prospect worthy of selection in the top two rounds

"He's a guy that has improved a lot over the season," head coach Travis Green said. "He's learned how to be a good pro. There are not a lot of nights where he doesn't play a pretty solid game. That's part of his preparation and part of learning how to be a pro and being ready to play every night."

McEneny has always been known as a puck-moving two-way defenceman. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he's got size on his side. He's a very good skater, a displays excellent vision on the ice, couple with excellent passing, which can be hard and accurate when necessary

McEneny has shown that zone breakouts are a strength of his, and in that area he might have an advantage over Subban. Whereas Subban is more of a rusher, McEneny plays more of a quarterback role on breakouts. He possesses the speed to move quickly through open spaces, but leaves himself the appropriate amount of room to make the smart play - something Subban has struggled with this yea

Another thing that has very noticeable about McEneny is his ability to play the right side as a left handed shooter.

He's not in the same league as Olli Juolevi, and while he doesn't have the same raw offensive talent as Subban, he might be a player that the Canucks' management is more willing to give an opportunity to, given his play in his own end

For all the abuse that is thrown at Gillis, he's done alright with the UFA signings of Tanev and McEneny and the drafting of Labate, Horvat, Gaunce, Cassels, Rodin, Hutton, Subban, and Cederholm.  IMHO, Tanev and Horvat are home runs; Hutton a double; Gaunce between a single/double; and the rest singles.  Not bad for a guy who was picking in the bottom third of each draft (except for Horvat, obviously).

Maybe a package deal for a right hand guy?

How did I miss that. Yeah 223 add muscle and have him clearing the crease at 230-240? Plus some offense.

I watched a couple Utica games and saw him replace Subban on the PP. Acquitted himself nicely. Good signing and a great call up.

#trade a D man and let the kids play.

He came into camp overweight and out of shape last year.  So yeah 223 not necessarily a good thing.

He pretty much worked his way into shape and into the number 1 spot in Utica last year.  Like you said, passed Subban on the PP and played on PK.  Hopefully continues to grow as a player this year and maybe one of the older vets can be moved for young assets at TDL.
