[Signing] Canucks re-sign Evan McEneny

Recommended Posts

Good signing. AT the Prospects Tourny last year he was a standout in my book. NHL size and good ice awareness. Could have been a bit more physical. Joulevi also stood out. Missed seeing Subban other than on the street. That guy is small.

Yeah, I thought McEneny looked real good last year, which makes me wonder why JB went out and signed Holm and Wiercioch. A bit of depth anyway. The Canucks have quite a few left hand shots on D:

Edler

Del Zotto

Hutton

Wiercioch

Holm

Pedan

McEneny

And coming up the pipe are:

Juolevi

Brisebois

Gunnarsson

Rathbone

Brassard

Sautner

Candella

Tryamkin?

We have a lot of left handed players but really how many right handed shots can you get out of that bunch?

Haven't seen him play much, but he always struck me as similar to Hutton -- 2-way, mobile, good awareness/hockey sense, offensively capable, and decent size although not very physical.

McEneny is better defensively a player that uses his smarts Hutton he has freakish speed with good puck skills but I see him out of position and lost at times in the defensive zone he relies on his physical abilities more than smarts.

What does not get enough attention is how Hutton assessed his first season and came back in season two weighing 205 pounds. He realized he was getting beaten on the boards physically and was relying to much on his puck retrieval with the stick. I thought he finished well last season and look forward to his season 3.

McEneny I saw in Penticton. Was impressed the way he was reading the play. NHL body with great positioning. Nice point shot.

He was a rock in Utica all season.  5v5, PP and PK.  He was Greens go to guy, or one of.

Sluttin Hutton is still 1 of my favourite Canucks maybe he was trying to hard when the team was struggling maybe it was the system they all did struggle under it I'm betting he comes back with a strong season I will always pull for the good guys like him he strikes me as a super happy guy with a great attitude in life.

I didn't say he was playing better than them now, but I think his ceiling is higher at the NHL level

Even then it's definitely debatable. Hutton still has more potential as a puck mover, and Stecher could blossom in the right situation. McEneny has typically been a secondary guy and his potential doesn't really push past that at the NHL level, even only defensively. Could still be good though - here's hoping.

I could easily see him being very similar to Brent Seabrook in his prime.......both in terms of style, iq and his impact on a game.

That said, though he's got the size, he doesn't hit the way Seabrook does.  He uses his size positionally, to impede progress and box players out, rather than throw his weight around

I could see a Seabrook-lite, but that'd exceed my expectations to get to the same level.

I think he could develop in to a solid, 2 way, 2nd pair guy but likely will be a solid bottom pair who can fill in on 2nd pair, guy.

Nothing wrong with either of those.

The great Russian Red Army teams of the 70's had all lefties except Tretiak.  Great players can play either side.  Ferderov played all five positions for the Wings, and was fabulous at them all.

It'll be interesting to see what our management do with all these AHL-first defencemen because it'd be a shame to lose one of them to waivers.

Why?   If you are losing players on waivers it is a sign your team is better than other teams and you are progressing.   If you are not having players claimed off of waivers you are not making hard decisions and your "cuts" are of no interest to any one else.   THAT Is more of a worry than having too much talent others want don't you think?

Our most underrated prospect. Ever since we drafted him he has played well everywhere. Put up very good OHL numbers, dominated the ECHL, and was one of the top guys in Utica as a rookie. Size, speed, all around game. Could be a solid 4/5 dman for us.

I remember he was the last ranked player in the draft haha.
