Hate to burst your bubble, but Garrison already has 50% of his cap retained by Montreal.

The footnote wasn't carried over from when you claimed him. Our apologies.

The NHL CBA allows for EACH team in a chain of player ownership to retain up to 50% of (their acquired) salary on the player, even if the overall retain results in the final team getting him for 25% of his overall value. A good example is Dubnyk in 2014:

  • Jan 15, 2014Dubnyk was traded from Edmonton to Nashville.
    • Edmonton retained 50% of his salary, or $1.75M of the $3.5M total.
  • March 5, 2014Dubnyk was traded from Nashville to Montreal.
    • Nashville retained 25% of his salary (which applies to the original total).  Therefore, the Predators retained $0.875M

Unless we have special rules in this league that ignore that portion of CBA and retains?

That would open the door to a wholllllle lot of additional 50% retaining.... I'm glad it's a question for our office's Legal Guide Brotherhood-Trio for Quandries (or the LGBTQ, as we like to call it for short)  @Master Mind, @Captain Azzy, and @thejazz97

To be honest, and this is just my opinion... I think we should keep it as is. We already allow more retaining then most other things and leagues. I think once a guy's contract is already retained at 50% total then that's the maximum allowable retention. So a team can still retain 25% and another team and retain another 25%. But I think 50% should be Max. If that makes sense. Again this is just my opinion

If you guys think some teams are abusing the retention rules (myself included), you haven’t seen anything yet, if we can start retaining above 50% of the original contact.

Keep it it how it is.

Worded much better... ignore my post read this one

Fair points! I can accept that as practical for both balance and mod sanity. Plenty of areas where we already don't follow the CBA, so it is entirely reasonable to have more. Apologies for starting a kerfuffle.

In which case, he is available for 2.3M. Which is more than affordable for a 3.9ppg player. :P

Agreed. As a team that is using cap space as an asset, the rules are already favorable enough. RL NHL only allows 3 retainments at one time so chain retainments would be quite rare.

I heard it was supposed to go up to $80 million but I don't think anythings official?

Yeah they never confirm this stuff until partway through the offseason. But Vegas doing well fast has been good for projections. A lot of it will depends on how the Canadian dollar does against the American.

Another problem is that 80 million dollar estimate assumes players use the escalator-they have lately, hence the small cap rise with steady revenues. But this has had the result of raising escrow, which the players hate. So they might decline to use the escalator, to get escrow under control.

All that is to say-its almost certainly going up. You can bet on a 2-3 million dollar raise pretty safely. There's a decent chance it goes up 5 to 80, but take 80 with some caution.

Is fantrax working for everyone else?

When I go to the site, it's just a grey screen with nothing to click on.

This, plus CDC notifications not working, is becoming quite the headache.

Fantrax is fine for me, as are CDC notifications. Maybe the internet is paying you back for all those weird searches you've been doing

Fantrax is fine, but my notifications continue to be broken in the same way as yours. Hovering around 30 unread notifications now, with no way to check any of them. Apologies if I seem to be slightly less active until it is sorted out; I can no longer tell when the thread updates or anyone responds to my stuff.

I have sent a couple messages to the IT side and posted on the bugs thread, but no real response yet.
