No worries and thank you for finding time brother! please never equate my low level rumblings and critiques here and there for a lack of appreciation or loss of love of this game! With that, a decision to look ahead to next year was made, but with that we had the reigning Norris winner on an expiring contract. We approached him to discuss his thoughts on both his and our situation, as he had a no-move clause, and we also had a discussion about contending while he's in his prime and whether he'd like to hang around in our rebuild or go to a contender ahead of free agency. He said that the latter would be an option that he'd consider, and now here we are. We'd like to thank Brent and Brian, who was signed earlier this year and was very good for us but was asked for in the trade, for their contributions. Burns especially though, who has been here for a while and nearly kept our team afloat by himself year after year. A true professional and a quality person, we wish him well in Vancouver and hope his upcoming playoff run is a long one. Having said that, we feel that we brought in some much needed depth and futures. The 2018 1st rounder was a requirement in any deal, and we got that from Vancouver, plus the 2019 TOR 3rd which is another asset to play with. But getting Tomas and Brett helps us fill out our top-half depth as we feel that a top-6 forward and a top-4 d-man in the return was solid. We look forward to seeing what they can do for us. But with Burns and Gibbons now gone, the sell-off enters full swing. Likely playoff bound veterans, such as James Neal, Cody Eakin and Antoine Roussel, could also be moved, but there are almost no untouchables on the roster so feel free to inquire within. Mike Vanderhoek
If I could please have everyone's attention, Today with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our friend, and fellow GM Darren " Wilb " Wilby. Darren passed away on December 30th surrounded by his wife and six beautiful children. Darren was 43 years old. The CDCGML League is saddened to hear of Darren's passing but to have known him for most only on this forum, some outside of it he was a true gentleman and class act who put family first and even when struggling never approached things negatively. We are better to have been a part of his journey. Truly. If even for just a short time on here he will always be a GML member. His positivity, determination, perseverance and dedication to the League cannot be understated. The League will respect " wilb " and not be looking for a new GM of the Stars in the interim, to be discussed at a later date with the League announcing specifics when available. Darren's family asked if anyone feels compelled to, he would wish donations be sent to okanaganrailtrail.ca ( in his name ) to help finish a project he was passionate about, a new trail connecting his hometown of Coldstream to Kelowna. There is zero obligation and we felt it best we relay his wishes here as he is a family member here too. If anyone has any questions about this project feel free to read the site or pm me at any time. Thoughts and Prayers to the Wilby family, Thank you. Lol https://globalnews.ca/news/3949671/swedish-captain-silver-medal-stands-wjhc-loss-canada/ Hating to lose is not the worst attribute of a 19 year old elite hockey player. The conduct a bit Moorish we admit. We are not going to let it scar our opinion of him as a draft pick of our Oliers & are excited by the passion. We still think Lias Anderson was a great pick around 20ish in last years draft!

Guest
That is heartbreaking news. I knew Wilb as a fine GM and nice guy to talk to, but I had no idea about his illness and family. My thoughts are with Wilb's wife and kids tonight, and to all who knew him. A tremendous loss.
