Lui's Knob
Vancouver trades Hutton & Rodin to Detroit for Athanasiou Hutton has been rumored for a while to be on the block and Detroit loves their mobile defensemen along with European content....gives Canucks another top 6-9 forward with potential to pot 20-25 goals .... there was a rumor Benning was kicking the tires on athanasiou... Fanuck
1. Best to see if Pouliot is an actual player first before we start shipping out d-men. 2. Young, mobile puck moving defencemen have a FAR greater value in today's game than top 6 forwards IMO - if this went through I wouldn't want to add to the deal, it should be pretty even if it's straight across in my view. kenhodgejr
Those guys are both young and have potential. I would like to see Benning try and do similar trades with Vanek, Eriksson, Sutter, and Dorset as he did with Burrows and Hansen. Even if the price is not as high, we should be moving vets for picks/prospects.

As I recall, Detroit is over the cap and are trying to get down. You've added an additional $2 million(ish) just in Hutton, so the Canucks would either have to retain salary or take on an additional contract, no? regards, G. By whom? Just because various CDC posters put him into lopsided (in favour of your Canucks) trades doesn't really count as "rumour".
N7Nucks
Outside of top 6 forwards, we are fine in the forward department. We need top 6 players, not more 3rd liners.

That's just it, Red Wings are in cap hell and they would have to send one of their D men over in the deal as they have big bucks on their blue line. They would probably want to dump Kronwall or Green then again if they were to dump either of those guys to another team it would clear up cap sapce to sign Athanasiou but who knows what their plan is. If we acquired Athanasiou we would most likely have to send Virtanen or Boeser down to the AHL or take on an ugly contract and i'm not cool with that. The_Rocket
I would rather move one of our roster forwards. Maybe trade on of our vets (sutter, gagner, Vanek) to a contending team then use assets from that trade, like a 2nd rnd pick, to get AA

Management won't trade Hutton and Detroit doesn't want Rodin. However, this doesn't say there's not a deal to be had here. Goldobin, Tryamkin and 2nd rnd pick 2018 for Athanasiou and 1st rnd pick 2018. Detroit gets an offensive forward who's a year younger then Anathasiou. I've said, pretty much, from day one that Goldobin is a curious pick up, given his, one dimensional, play. He just seems (to me, at least) to be out of place. They also get a huge dman who doesn't like Vancouver and a second rounder to compensate for the fact that he's, at least, a couple seasons from a return. Another motive for the pick is Detroit's reluctance to give picks. I might even be willing to add another pick if it gets a deal done. I want that first rounder. We get another offensive forward who has better two way ability than Goldy and is willing to play the physical game. We, also, get another valuable pick to, further, fill our cupboards and lose a problematic player who seems to have no interest in returning to Vancouver ( Bye bye Cryamkin). I would look at this as a win.

The rights for players who have left for the KHL generally don't hold a lot of value. Factor in Tryamkin just signed a 3 year deal to play there and it's an easy no go

Even if they don't take the deal, maybe they throw us a counter offer. I don't think I'd offer much more though.
